I have been using the Sun shower brand to have "running water" on my tent bow camping trips, but they never last too long without leaking. Are there any better designs available or a home made one that would be recommended. Thanks TLM

I have a coleman Mohican. It hasn't leaked yet. Doesn't mean it wont start. Could always happen.
My issue is cots and air mattresses inside my outfitters tent. Seems like most everythi8ng is junk or something.

Not sure if your packing or camping near vehicle. I use a new 2 gallon weed sprayer pump it up, wet down, lather up and rinse works well and has probably lasted 15 years. And if your feeling soft boil 1/2 gallon water and dump it in.

years ago when I was building our home I lived outdoors, or basically camped until I got the home weather tight and some basic utilities installed. this took about seven months.
during this time, I used the Zodi camp shower. it worked good, and I would recommend it. I still use a Zodi for the occasional shower when elk hunting from a truck camp.
the biggest downside in the pump takes D batteries.

At our deer camp we used a gallon jug with holes poked in the lid. Heat water, mix with cold and wet yourself down. I held the record of showering and shaving with one gallon of water.

When my wife and myself go up moose hunting we take our shower bucket, a plastic pail that holds about 3 gallons. In the side about I/2 inch from the bottom I drilled a small hole which I plug with a twig. Water is heated in a pot which sits on our camp wood stove full time, mix it with cold water to taste in the wash bucket and hoist it over a tree branch and pull the plug. 2 gal is more than enough. We make a rough shower enclosure with a plastic tarp. Nothing more simple or fool proof. Sandy

When ever we take our sun shower along on a canoe trip, it is cloudy on shower day, so we had hot water to it to make it tolerable. Careful when heating water in a pot, it may be hotter than you think. I was going to have my wife handle the pot for me once. She heated the water, put her finger in it, "feels about right", stepped up on a rock for easier pouring, then burned the top of my head.

There is a black weed sprayer barrel with long hose and shower like spray head out there on the market. Used in sailing applications. I have one home made weed sprayer shower and one commercial made black one. Only the difference I see are costs and the black barrel does heat up in the sun better. Kinda have to watch the sun a bit though depending up the day. Either way they work great at least I think so.....

Tux Pads or Witch Hazel. Actually there's a new pressurized shower on the market that works really great. Same idea as the bug sprayer; but, is collapsible and works even better. I'll look it up and post it on the 30th.

I used to just soak my bandana with water from canteen jug stream of lake and use it as a wash cloth. Whatever water was convenient. Soap the bandana if the filth was pretty crusty. Jump in the lake, or stream or whatever for a real thorough clean up. Talkin long time ago, single and tough. I'm a puss now and need hot soapy water, plus hot rinse water. Five gallon bucket. My how age has changed me. lol!

Made me laugh Bob! Taken my share of blistering cold dunks & showers. Gotta be pretty nasty to take a cold shower in cold weather!
Use a solar shower & own 3 none leak. Still cold though as I never remember to hang till I get back to camp.
Handiwipes I get at the homeless shelter. Funny & not. They work...for awhile. See a weed pump in my future.

I appreciate the great ideas! I have a Stearns that straps to the roof of my suburban. It has been leaking where the tube enter the bag. It gets a lot of use camping in the mountains in the fall and driving on the beach in the summer. I wanted to see what was out there beside the Stearns. Always interested in what others are using or what they have made. Thanks. TLM

Back-packing, best bet is a spit-bath. All you need is a pot of water and a wash- cloth.
Staying with a vehicle, best bet is a 6-gallon water jug left inside the vehicle. Inside of a silver-painted fiberglass topper, that used to get up to around 110 degrees, easy, in decent weather.

We have used a couple of 2 1/2 gallon zip lock bags. Warm the water up, put in the bag, un zip a bit and pour . They come 8 in a box for a couple of dollars. We also use them to store our folded clothes in while camping, hiking or biking. Keeps everything neat and dry when traveling. We rode our bicycles cross country living and showering ( when a shower wasn't available) out of zip locks.

I don't just get dirty camping. As a carpenter I come home dirty, sweaty, and after a really grueling day, corn dog crunchy. Like today for example I'm pretty crunchy as I type this.
When I was young and single in the 70s I came home dirty, sweaty, corn dog crunchy, and toasty from the bar after work. A few beers softens up the crunch. Sometimes I'd wake up in the A.M. same clothes on, and zoom out the door to work. Can't remember exactly but I'm sure I had weeks where I maybe bathed twice. DAUM I was gnarly!! lol

We camp where water is a luxury. I take a laundry detergent bottle, about 3 quarts, cut the pour spout out so filling is easy, then cut 8-10 1/8" holes in half the lid surface. Can take a complete shower and have water left.

try the Coleman hot water on demand. It runs on a small 16.4 oz propane bottle. Rechargeable battery. It hooks right into a 5 gallon jug that comes with and you have instant hot water for showers, drinks, cleaning. We use at our hunting shabin and even cold fall days we can clean up in the elements with hot water. Works like a tankless water heater.
