Nightmare - How so?

From: Renegade
Date: 25-Jun-16

Pete will do. Woodeye, i left so much wood on the stave for the limbs, me knot really knowing what i was doing due to my first self bow i started with the scraper, i scraped and scraped and scraped for days barely getting anywhere. i didn't want to over shot the weight i was shooting for.

Measuring 12" down from the top limb measures 4" 12 " down on the bottom limb measures 41/4 " is this a positive tiller? is this good or bad?

Looks great to me, you should be proud.

Give your self a pat on the back,,,nice bow,,,,love that handle!! JeffW

From: Matt Ewing

That is a nice looking bow but your not done yet. I am no expert. The top limb is hinged at the fadeout. The bow should form a D when strung. I didnt take time to type this to be mean. I did it out of concern if you dont tiller it more it will snap in that area. I hope some of the guys that are experts will weigh in and correct me if I am wrong. It does look nice. Peacefully Matt

Good job man! I'm still trying to get one to come out.

Very nice looking bow. But why did you put the stitching on the backside?

From: Bob W.
Date: 25-Jun-16

Welcome to the club, careful though it can consume you. Nice first bow that's for sure. Full draw pics to see how those fades look?

From: Jim Davis
Date: 25-Jun-16

Matt, I think you are correct. I would even say both limbs have all of their bend just out of the fades.

Bo, you may get away with that condition, because hickory will take a lot before it breaks. You also seem to have a lot of string follow. (We could say that's deflex, and maybe it is, for all we know.)

We'd like to see a full-draw photo.

string cutter to hide the two sections on the snakeskin. Matt i understand no hard feelings taken. constructive criticism is welcomed, so one can learn. Bob w will do. jim if it makes it to Ohio and back ill be happy. i will be starting another bow SOON real SOON. LOL.

Date: 25-Jun-16

So i took too much just off the fades?

From: Renegade
Date: 25-Jun-16

Now im going to be cautious to draw it back to full draw.

Congratulations on your first, Renegade. Pretty neat. Yes, before starting the next one, a full draw photo would be good. Jawge

What do you mean before starting on the next one full draw pics? I don't follow..

From: George Tsoukalas
Date: 26-Jun-16

I mean if you want constructive critiques. It's hard to tell what is going on from braced photos. My first one needed a lot of constructive criticism probably my last one too.

So not all is lost, scrape just past the fades to the tips??

From: Renegade
Date: 26-Jun-16

that's not good. so for the next bow any recommendations?

From: Jim Davis
Date: 26-Jun-16

I suggest looking at lots of pictures of bows at full draw. They won't all be good, but they will give you an idea what to look for.

I also strongly suggest getting a copy of The Traditional Bowyer's Bible, Vol. I.

From: Renegade
Date: 26-Jun-16

Jim will do and i just received my copy in the mail.

From: George Tsoukalas
Date: 26-Jun-16

You could go to primitivearcher.com and look at the bows of the month to get an idea. I used to stand back while at shoots and watch people draw and shoot just to get an idea. There's info on my site too. Jawge http://traditionalarchery101.com/

You need a tillering gizmo to tell you where to remove wood to get the limbs bending properly.

This guy took a course with me a month ago and this full draw pic shows what your bow's tiller should look like

From: JMartin
Date: 29-Jun-16

Well, it's still a very nice looking bow, you did a fine job! It is addicting and I bet your next bow will look great and tiller just fine! Good luck and full steam ahead!

From: barebo2
Date: 29-Jun-16

Most of that have built selfbows know what a proper tiller is Marc - What's your point????????

From: MStyles
Date: 29-Jun-16

For your first bow? It didn't blow, so I say, good job. You have to make them to really learn. You'll get a better tiller on the next one. As someone on the 'Wall told me some years ago; "if you ain't breaking, you ain't making", lol!

I wasn't talking to you barebo. I was talking to renegade who needs to look at some bows
