EYE BALL YOUR RISERS WHEN YOU GET THEM FOR ANY RUST. I really want to get fixed it was beautiful and loved it hope it comes together soon so I can use it one day. All this money tied up and not able to shoot it yet.
If anyone has any solid ideas where or who can repair please advise me asap.

Beautiful bows!
Ok, dumb question of the day....I have owned dozens of bears and really enjoy them but have never owned a take down. I know the difference between A, B and C risers and 1,2,3 limbs but what denotes a Type 1 riser? What other Types are there? (Type 2,3, mag????)
Just trying to increase my bear knowledge beyond my beloved Grizzlys
Thank you!

Type I are palm swelled more also I learned with mine unlike a Green stripe persay. I think I'm correct. ABC are easy to spot they are each longer than each other.LOL
Limbs are another animal if they aren't marked they been tampered with more likley.
BTW help me get this riser fixed and point me to the repair person or house so I can get on the wave. I'm wiped out on the beach while surf is up. I'm crying.

Looks to me like you need a new limb pocket. May be able to have a Bear dealer order one for you.
Next option may be to take it off and find a good gunsmith or machinist in your area.

I am still struggling to understand how I would identify a Type 1. Was it an option for a period of time? I don't see it as something that exists today as being able to order a Type1. I am really just trying to learn the history of the TD Can anyone post a picture of a Type1 next to some other Types also made of wood?

ceme24, type1 was the first two years they were made. In the third year bear made some changes. They routed out the site window to allow plate for site pins and took some of the bulk from the grip. So as a rule of thumb you can use the serial numbers listed above to determine the difference and the visual in the site window is the easiest way to tell. There can always be a few exceptions out there. Hope this helps. Steve

Hillbillyking, I bought the first BearTD that was in Alabama. A crack showed in the sight window within a few weeks, archery shop replaced it immediately(June/July). I have had it in my possession ever since. You do know that 1922 is less than 2000??? I have no idea how numbers were shipped to different states but I do know exactly when I bought it.

Bear's fiscal calendar wasn't 1-12 either. How exactly that relates to the serial numbers and date of production I don't know. From the ledger, only 217 Bs were built in 1971. So the majority were made in 1969 and 1970.

Thank you! I can now sleep well knowing it's essentially a date range. That's what I thought, but didn't know. I appreciate the insight. These are very cool bows. I have owned probably 3 dozen bears but have yet to buy a take down of any sort from Bear yet. Just trying to expand my knowledge beyond the one piece bows! Thanks again

Quite a while back I started a thread about 1960 Kodiaks with the prefix BH for the serial number...in short what we discovered is that there are clearly bows from both 1959 and 1960 production with those 999 serial numbers...that lead us to surmise that Bear did not put a serial number on a bow until it was going out the door...things were done a little differently 40 or 50 years ago...not sure anyone really cared when a bow was actually built

Glenn, Brandon did extensive modifications to the riser which no doubt diminished its value as an original Type I riser. As far as I'm concerned it's a one of a kind with the perfect grip and priceless to me!
