Hi, I'm looking to somewhat replicate this type of grip wrap. I know I'm not going to find the exact same thing, but recommend something that will be similar.

Cloth tape, rubber wrap. I don't want it too thick. Tried some leather but it looked like a belt around the grip!LOL

3 Rivers has a similar looking wrap made of suede in three different colors.

I use camo Lizard Skins baseball handle wrap I bought at Dick's. I know it comes in black also. Not sure about brown. Mine is a metal riser, but I don't think they look much thicker than what you have. Lancaster also sells them now.

Looks like leather. You just need the correct weight, with the edges skived/ bevelled. Tennis racket wrap, or handlebar wrap are similar but would probably need reducing.

I like tennis racket wrap. $2ish @ walmart.

That is a neat looking grip.

The grip is typical of many bows of the early 50's era. The same wrap on my Grimes, Ben Pearson and Cravotta Bros warrior bows.

It is thin vinyl with some sort of thicker cord in between the two outer thin layer of vinyl to created the rounded belly. This allows the wrap to lay flat.

The problem with the two wraps recommended at the 3 rivers site is that the edges are two thick and don't lay flat and in my opinion look ugly. I would rather use black electrical tape that those ugly thick wraps.

Handlebar wrap might work.

Power Flex tape, sticks to it's self. Once you have it in place and you like the feel spray with bed liner coating. Easy to remove. Simple to put on.

Power flex tape is the same as vet wrap. I've used that before, but it is too temporary. After a while it gets dirty and has to be replace. I'm looking for something a little more permanent that will patina with age.

Good leather wraps are near impossible to find these days. This is an old, old leather tennis racket grip wrap that I was very lucky to find in a tennis oriented sporting goods store about 12 years ago when I fixed up the grip on this "Halloween" Alaskan.

Can't find anything like that anywhere now. I have also used old golf club handle wraps too. Good luck finding something. I may finally have to buy a skivving knife and learn to do proper wraps and grips myself. Nothing beats a good, skive edge for wrap or grip.

Couple more- best possible I could do with flat, unskived wraps...

Another successful "flat" wrap- Osage self-bow by Steve Gardner (Badger).

Good idea on getting some junk golf club and using the wrap second hand.

I have been using vet wrap on some of my bows these days and really like it. It is the stuff they wrap horses ankles with and you can get it at farm supply/co-op/veterinarian supply places. It is only a couple of bucks a roll and it makes a nice grip. It gets a little grainy after a while and you have to reapply it occasionally, but that is a snap. It isn't a beautiful custom leather handle, but it feels great in your hand.

Yes, I have equines, so have a bunch around all the time. Want something nicer looking. Thnaks!

I like tennis raquet handle wrap. It is like a thin neoprene. A little cusioned and absorbs moisture and doesn't get slick.

I like beaver tail but for what your looking for I'd look and find some leather golf club wrap.(if they still make it,lol) I even wrapped my selfboow I had made with leather shoe laces.

Two more- The Kodiak II (bottom) has a modern, available wrap (pictured) called "Overgrip Feel" by Pro Team SP; seems to be intended for wrapping over the grip already on the tennis racket (it's very thin) -so you can keep layering it up if necessary. Absolutely the best "feel" of anything I've tried. Just doesn't look classy like real leather. Flat black, space age look.

The 64" 1956 Kodiak above has a temporary salvaged old golf club wrap- my "Game of Thrones" wrap because of the gold thread. Eventually I want to replace with a real, skived classic leather handle, like "Bodymanbowyer" and others have done.

Both bows- great condition, flawless shooters otherwise- came with trashed original handle grips. Compass long gone from the 54, with a bad substitute replacement leather already on it. The 54 had a big, jagged hole and tears from a screw attached quiver.

I have used heavy cotton twine on several bows. It can be dyed to your color of choice. I put it on as tight as possible soaking wet and when it's dry saturate it several times with water based poly.

I like the lizard skins used for baseball handle wrapping as well.Thier are many colors to choose from.About 10 $.

Thrift stores Randall! Old tennis racquets or golf clubs. That is probably what they used back in the day. Refurb the wrap with saddle soap and Lexol. - lbg

I plan to wrap a semi-pistol longbow grip with a 1" wide strip of thin suede leather. Can somebody please explain how the wrapping begins and ends? In other words, what angle do you cut the ends of leather strip, how much do you overlap at the beginning point, do you tuck the end of the strip under the last wrap or do you just glue it down, etc. Thanks!
