Picked this up off the bay. Looks to have seen its better days. Hope to bring some life out of it. Knew better but bought it anyway. Heck, I'm not even a righty. See how we come out.

You may have big hands, but you have a tiny photo.
Can you post one big enough to see?

once again, different pictures from a camera and hopefully larger. I tried to save the ones from the listing and transfer. Guess I know that does not work now.

Boy Grizzly, that is one dirty ugly bow now. That will make for some great before and after pictures. Be sure to show when it's done. Nobody will believe that it's the same one. JF

Looks like its been kept in the bottom of a boat for fifty some years. You would think it would have a fish reel on it though. Non archers do not understand things like limb twist and it had a 20 degree difference in where the limb tips were pointing. As I am working on it, it is straightening itself back out. Tells me it probably was a wet environment, maybe a shed or garage. Couple days I will have done all I can do with it. Will definitely be a nice wall decoration if nothing else. Too bad the hand written numbers in the window are long gone.

It does say Howatt, I could just make out the top of the mounted conquistador. Do not know if its a Palomar or a catalina. Maybe its a different model that i'm not thinking of. It has that red 3M? glass. It measures out at 69" so I suspect Palomar but I would just be guessing. The weight is stamped in the window so I suspect the serial number was in there originally. I was hoping the rosewood was fairly intact and when I went to rasp out the side of the handle where the divot is at, the wood chips immediately turned from the mottled bleached grey on the surface to oily black. Where the fiberglass tapers down in front of the shelf, it had started to separate ever slightly. Makes me kind of wonder about the strength of the glue joints. I will probably just keep this one as a wallhanger. Not worth risking having it blow apart. Surprising to me how well it cleaned up. I coated it with superglue and am applying tru-oil and its looking good. I'll post some after photos when its done. 18 layers of laminations in this one.

The after photos, it is still just a wallhanger but a much better looking one. I saw that cream colored streak and had a pretty good hunch it was Brazilian rosewood. Turned out pretty nice. Limbs are still warped slightly. Never know hanging on the wall. Pictured with a Palomar that is slightly shorter. The Palomar has not been refinished and the swirl remover turned white wherever there was a gap in the finish. Thanks to DJS Howatt for the decal. You can see the difference in the decals but a pretty good representation of what it might have been.
