How is the best way to remove this bushing? I have a Bear bow that I would like to remove the bushing, shorten it and re-install flush with the back of the bow. I thought about heat but don't want to melt the fiberglass or soften the lamination glue. BobG

Why don't you try filing it flush and then cold bluing the bare metal surface? The best I've used is Brownell's Oxpho Blue.

Well do not "pull" it as it will splinter the heck out of it. Twisting it has worked for me in the past.

You might try applying heat to a bolt that you screw into the bushing...that way the heat works out from the middle

Get a bolt of matching threads and screw it in. Heat the bolt with a torch and twist to get it loose. Vice grips are handy for that. Be careful that it's not actually screwed in and glued, some were like that. Most should just work loose with heat. They stuck out for a reason; so you wouldn't mar the riser wood with a stabilizer or reel attachment. I personally would let it alone, but that's just me.

Hey a matching thread bolt with a stop nut HOT screw it in with vise grips. Let it set you will smell and maybe hear it sizzle the glue. Twist and pull. Some are threaded and glued. So if it doesn't twist and pull. Try running the stop nut tight against the bushing and then turn counter clockwise out. JF

Before you do that, try shooting the bow with a short stabilizer or 'doinker' - you just might change your mind. Is it pretty? Heck no! But you might like the performance and 'feel'.
Of course your trad-fashion-conscious friends will give you grief...

I am again amazed by my fellow "trad" people. I have a Kodiak Hunter, i bought in March 1970, with some writing on it. Looks like "Fred Bear 1982". Maybe I should refinish it and make it look better. Guess I'd leave the bushing like Bear installed it. My KH also has a bushing that I think I paid $2.00 extra. Worked real good when I use to shoot carp.

dang I should have read the OP more closely! If you just want to make the bushing 'flush' with the wood you don't need to remove it.
Put masking tape all around it, then carefully dremel it down flush. Or really close. Finish with emery cloth, then touch up the bow finish with gun stock finish.

Thank's to everyone for their replies. Since the bow has sentimental value to me I have decided to just leave it alone. BobG.
