Archer's choice for the weekend. Shoot straight and be safe! Please take a moment this weekend to remember those that paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we hold so dear!
I'm gonna take the liberty to cut into Chad's week and make this shot call effective through Monday evening [maybe he'll get to sleep in on Monday morning? :) ]. However, if Chad makes a call on Monday, please follow his lead.
God's blessings to all - Big John

Thanks Randy, and to all the veterans who lost their lives for our country, I wish we could bring them all back.
I tried three different things, first a walk-up as described on the target.
Next a five arrow group at twenty yards with bow canted.
Then a group shot with the bow horizontal and from the hip at ten yards, I believe Kwikdraw from Texas did this one a while back, it intrigued me enough to try it.
Everyone have a fantastic weekend and make sure you eat too much, I know I'm going to try.
But most of all try to attend a parade, a memorial or anything pertaining to our Veterans and the ones who have fallen for our freedom..........wing

Wing,,
I think i blame it on my shooting glove That hickory longbow doesnt have a serving at the nock,j perfer it that way i have medium fingers and get a better release without one But in shooting it that way i get string wax build up on my shooting glove and as soft and comfy as my BearPaw glove is i washed the wax off the finger tips with some rubn alcohol and treated it with some saddle soap Hopefully it solves some of my problem cause i was bout 2 steps from coming down to the bow range with my A5 and having the final word : ) lol

Hot day so I decided to take the dogs down to the pond for a swim..about a half mile down a ridge then dropping down into a beautiful cove that was timbered about 80 years ago. I took my bow for a potential stump opportunity. Near the bottom of the cove I spied a massive old oak stump 35 in. diameter with a dark hole in the side...I hit it dead center and buried that judo point through the center. Turned out I found the only semi solid wood left in that stump and when I pulled on my arrrow I got the shaft but the point and insert pulled out and remained buried. Took me 15 minutes of tearing apart the stump with my Leatherman but I finally got the Judo point. Thus frustrated, I took a few steps and spotted a 12 in log on its side with a bright sunlit spot in the middle...hit that bright spot like I knew what I was doing, and thereby discovered that the log was the base of a locust tree that had been blown over then sprouted a new trunk from one end. Upon impact with said very much intact locust the nock shot out the rear of the shaft and the shaft itself rebounded about 1.5 in back off the 50 gr. insert. The Judo only penetrated 1/4 inch. After digging that point out and now both of my Judo-tipped arrows disabled, I continued with the now very impatient dogs to the bottom of the cove, crossed the creek and stareted to follow it down to the pond, when I spied a pine log lying about 20 yards ahead through the spring growth. So I boldly pulled out an arrow with a field tip and let fly for a bare spot where the bark had fallen off...only to catch a twig that deflected my arrow upward just enough so I hit the top of the log, the arrow ricocheted up and far to the right and if I hadnt seen it flying through the woods, I would have never found it 15 yards to the right of the pine log. I took off my fingers and armguard and called it quits. The dogs had a great time in the pond, perplexed by the 15-18" rainbow trout that circled the pond like spawning carp.
That was early afternoon. I figured best not to end the day that way, so I made a first shot /last shot 4 arrow walk up from 55,40,25 and 10 yards at the much-maligned squirrel hiding behind the obstructions. Not bad from the distances and changes from shot to shot, even skinned the critter's belly from 40.
Have a great weekend!

This is my son Josh and his Daughter Dayla. These are her first shots with her bow. It's a Mini Mikelumne I got her for Christmas this year(2015). It took 3 arrows from 12 feet but that's in the 12 ring. Now all she wants to do is shoot her bow with me. Score!!! Randy

You are lucky, I can't get any of my grand or great grand children interested in shooting, it's this electronic crud that has their interest.

There is a special place near Gander, Newfoundland. Back in the 8os a DC 8 loaded with U.S service personel crashed on take off, killing all on board. My wife and I drive past there every year and we seldom do so without stopping at the Silent Witness monument to pay our respects..I will try and post a picture. Sandy
