I'm thinking about building a new bow form and interested in possibly building some reverse handle longbows. Any photos of different designs or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Here are some pictures of a 58" belly mount longbow I built. 13" riser 48" at 28" http://i.imgur.com/P2v9ltg.jpg?1

I have a reverse handled longbow built by Ron Fox. It points and shoots beautifully

I had a reverse handle flat bow made by Northwind which I think is out of Pennsylvania. Very nice shooting bow. Maybe you could google Northwind for some photos of their flat bows.

Wtk that looks great, full draw looks perfect, what taper rate did you use? Any tip wedges? They look like they hold a little reflex even at full draw. How about limb pad angle? There could seriously be a market for a bow like that

There are several belly mount takedowns available, love my heartland surge, timberghost gets good ratings also.

Google belly mount bows and see them.

Awesome bow WTK! What wood did you use in the riser? I'm looking to go one piece with a very slight reflex in the tips.

Question for you guys.... Does this style cut into the length of your powerstroke? I can see how they might be a bit more stable in the hand during the shot, but it seems like it would have to raise the brace height.

I only owned one reverse handled longbow and it was back in the early 1990's. The bow was 60" or 62" in length and 60#@28"I really liked the bow, it shot well and had very little hand shock. I don't remember why I sold it. The bowyer who made it lived near Clymer Pennsylvania his shop was a converted garage. It's been so long I can't remember his name. I heard he moved to Colorado. I like the look of the reverse handled longbows.

GF..it depends on how the grip is positioned in relation to the limbs. A reverse handle bow can have a lot of reflex, or not, and the grip can be forward of the center of the core, or not.

Definitely depends on design, my Heartland Surge is running a 7 1/4" brace and Cory runs his at 7 1/8".

I like my Hill Big 5 reverse handle. It points really well and has very little hand shock.

Here is one I built not to long ago, it has no finish in this picture. I also really like the forward handle design.

I own two that are potentially the best ever made, the Elburg Jaguar. They have the same brace height as any other longbow, and the limb tips are the same distance ahead of the grip as a normal Hill backset. (There are people making forward handle bows with limb follow.)

I also have an Elburg with the grip center set, and I have come near to buying one with the Hill style grip on several occasions, though I sorta know how that is going to turn out so I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I think the key thing is to build them with the main bit about where they occur in relation to each other as on any bow.

It was my favourite bow for a while, but while there is no right place to put a grip, or if there is it is probably close to the center position rather than either extreme, I still sorta got tired of the bow always looking a little wrong. I now shoot a Hill style bow.

Foxbo's Jag is in the picture. Just easier to pull one off the site, than dig out a photo of mine, and his pics are really nice. For being the same bow, mine is a lot shorter, and has a one piece grip, and possibly a shorter riser section.

I think Foxbo's is 68". One of mine is 62". Yet smooth drawing for a 29" bow. While they look like a regular longbow, forward grip aside. Unstrung they are a lot like a hybrid, so they can be made a lot shorter than a regular Hill bow.

Northwind was out of New York, Gerry Fiegl was the bowyer

I had a Northwind longbow that was a nice bow, got too heavy for me so I sold it but it was a reverse handle bow. Shot really well.

I've had one reverse handle longbow and shot several more. While they all shot great, I can't get past the look of them. I just think they're ugly. They look wrong.

Here is my JD Berry Morningstar. Quieter than other Hill style bows I have shot and it is the most forgiving Hill Style bow I have shot or owned. I would not part with it.

Here's one of mine. I have been making both reverse handle and std Hill style for about 25 years, trying to decide which I prefer, and I haven't figured it out yet.

A reverse handle bow does not have to be slower. The limbs are less stressed because of their position, but the efficiency lost there can be easily regained by a little more reflex or shorter working limb length.
