Does anyone know who made a recurve marked Black Death? The bow looks a lot like a curved bed Big Horn. If the bowyer is not still around does anyone know where I can get a set of replacement limbs?

Looks like the bottom limb doesn't fit real well, as I see a lot of the locater pin showing. Or maybe the limb bolt isn't tightened. I can't remember who built your bow?

On the riser under Black Death is my name. I bought the bow, my first custom by the way, in late '88. The bottom limb does in fact fit well, its just I didn't may sure it was all the way down when taking pictures. The bowyer used in adverstise in Trad Bowhunter Mag. For some reason the name Schultz comes to mind.

Dave Schultz, bowyer in Phillips, Wisconson.. He quit and left several people that had paid without their bow or refund..my bow is the only one I know of without a broken limb...Byron Ferguson was the first person to shoot it when it came in...He told me due to the lams that he would advise against unstringing it..I haven't and it is still intact....

I just put a new string on and cut the old one without deflexing the limbs...been my "go to" bow since I bought it back in '90...

This is the 2nd set of limbs. The 1st set did delaminate and he replaced them. If he is no longer in the business maybe someone can help me find someone who has a set for sale or maybe find someone that can make me a new set. These are 65 lbs @ 28 Would like to get a 55 lb. or 60 lb. set.

It does look like a copy of a Bighorn. Might have copied the limb bolt hole and alignment pin hole dimensions as well. Might see if you can find a set of Bighorn limbs to try. They just might fit.

Yeah that is what I was thinking. If anyone has a set of Bighorn limbs that fit the curved bed to just let me try I would appreciate it. Your pick the terms of the trial.

Maybe you could just grind the limb pad flat and mount some bolt on limbs that you drill for the pin hole? Or even put in some short iLF fittings and make a warf out of it?

Don't know exactly...Byron shot it, said it "tracked" good, but the limbs tapered down and had only a single lam or something..advised not to unstring it regularly... I have another riser and one limb from one of the many that failed. I checked to see if a Bighorn limb would interchange..none of the 3 Bighorn bow's limbs would match up...

Yup, back when I was in the arrow business I traded 8 dz. custom arrows for a custom Black Death made by Dave Schultz. He got the arrows but I never got the bow. Was to the house he was living in at the time. he had one limb form so made the limbs one at a time, no heat box. The handles came pre shaped from a place up in Barron WI that was making action wood at that time.
Bighorns were of much higher quality and construction, without a doubt.

I was going to prosecute him through the Postmaster General for mail fraud, called him and told him...he sent the bow instead of the 428.00 refund...he was 11 bows behind, according to my source when he closed up shop...

The Bighorn limb lies in the riser perfect but the limb bolt hole doesn't align...if Bighorn was still in business maybe buying the limbs unfinished and align the hole accordingly...

If it were me, I would use the Bighorn limbs if they fit the same curve as the pad, fill the original holes and just drill new holes for the Schultz pin. If you drill slightly off, you can use epoxy or filler and bolt the limbs on, adjust for straightness and let the filler dry for exact fit. It's not rocket science. People do it all the time with quarfs and bolt on limbs.
