I guess i need to word this a little different. Can I take an Old Bear Alaskan riser and throw away the compound parts and mount regular Bear recurve limbs on it? It looks like the same latch system.

If compounds were collectable you would have a prize. Only ever saw one and that was 1974-76 timeframe if my memory is about right. I was fascinated by the takedown feature. Hope it works out for you. I have seen some used Bear limbs at reasonable prices lately.

I had asked this same question a while back as I have two Alaskan compounds, one in bad shape the other decent. But the members here told me it can't be done as the limb pockets on the Bear mag risers are cast and machined different than those on the Alaskan bows. In my opinion the old Alaskans were the best compound bow Bear ever produced.

I don't think so but you could probably retrofit sage limbs or the like.I remember the discussion but couldn't find the thread.

Send it to somebody that has a set of limbs and let them try them. That' the only way to know for sure.

The grips and sights interchange and both risers are magnesium, but the limb pockets are totally different. I seem to remember there was a Bear target bow that had bolt-on limbs that would fit, however I can't remember what model. It's not prior to 1978.

I was told the limbs wouldn't bolt on.

Can you get a picture of the limb pocket or the limb butt disassembled? I'm thinking formula gold, silver or bronze limbs (Bear target bows) "possibly" might fit?

I have a riser just like yours. Wanted to warf it, but the limb angle is too steep. Keep us posted if you figure something out. I was debating getting some thick stock to modify in a wedge shape to have the correct limb pad angle but havent gotten around to it yet.
