Glad the package arrived and enjoy the videos. Probably one of the best around is Woody Blackwell. Google Art of Ishi. That is the guy that is teaching (or trying to teach ) me knapping.

Rick, everything I sent is obsidian.
Obsidian is volcanic glass and knaps much the same as glass. Google obsidian and you will get a better picture of what it is and how it is formed. Very nice point. Get your bases thin if you intend on hafting them.
A master flint knapper on here is Dire Wolf. Jim makes some outstanding looking points and blades.

I've been itching to do some chipping too. I just haven't got around to it. Jon Stewart will be some good help, I have a knife he made from obsidian. Stone or glass points are very interesting. Oh yea I have a special arrow that a Waller made me, also obsidian and switch cane. I'm itching to shoot it someday. JF

Wasn't sure they would come thru.
Top blade is mahogany obsidian. Blade on left is Brenda Agate, P-wood point, opal glass blade, unknown agate material and the two bottom point are snow flake obsidian.

Snowflake can be tricky because of the white spots which are little grainy gravel pockets. They will stop the flakes from running sometimes. P-wood has to be agatized to knap. I had my buddy heat treat this piece in a kiln before I knapped it.

Jon like your work.thanks for posting. Very inspirational .This sort of thing is what keeps me going.Got to start cooking my rock.I just am impressed that whilst my points are far from perfect they are reasonably consistent in size and weight.Something I could not achieve at one stage.Since. I am mounting them what is a safe material to test them out on without breaking them or taking off the edge.I will need to group them so I can hunt.So far a bag of saw dust looks like it may be OK .I will either scare a few rabbits or kill some .
