Hi folks Returning to Leatherwall after 12 years off. 60 now and in shape. I've had a slew of custom bows, all in 60 pound to 73 pound range. Brackenbury, Wapiti, Pronghorn, Meigs, others.

Looking at Great Northerns now and just wondering how smooth their jackknife models are.

Any hand shock with 9-10 gr arrows? Anyone experience any felt movement of the joint at all? Looking at 62" Bushbow anywhere in the 50's. Thanks for your opinions.

I have -0- experience with the jackknife, but have ne reason to believe it's any less smooth than any of their other bows. If it were, they wouldn't sell it.

The hinged models are no different than any of the others. The bows all shoot heavy arrows well. I have had three GN, all performed better with at least 10gpp. Two bushbows and a fireball.

The hinge is very stiff and other than the "bump" on the front of the handle, the bow is no different than a one piece.

Great Northern's Jackknife is the best takedown system on the market. Have no fear: the folding models the company makes will shoot every bit as smoothly and quietly as the one piece models.

There is no slop in the hinge, and no failures in over 20 yrs of production.

Ive been shooting a great nortern ghost for about 20 years. Its been acoss the country and up to the artic several times. the jackknife feature folds well for storage and packs away nicely in a suitcase. There are no wrenches or spare parts to worry about, just open up and string. Dont forget to order the strapon quiver, its sturdy and sound. I have had no problem with this setup at all, the hinge is still sturdy and shows no sign of wear. It still shoots like a one piece bow.

Jerry Brumm is one of the most meticulous boywers alive, and yo will be happy with any of their bows as long is they fit your hand well.

A "bump" in the handle might be a good idea for hand-positioning even without the hinge.. I love my 60# Critter Gitter Special.

I owned a Bushbow with the jackknife feature and found it to be very smooth. Only reason I sold it was because it was too much weight for me. The hinge on the front of the handle was an added bonus as it served as a locator grip of sorts.

The hinge has zero slop. The best two piece take down system there is in my opinion. Jerry is one of the best bowyers around.

I'll echo what all have said. Just picked up a jack-knifed critter Gitter Special that marked 62# @ 25" and was made in September of 1994. It is rock solid and is so smooth that it's hard to believe it is as heavy as marked. My go to bow now and probably will be for years to come.
