Hi! ive been recently changing my anchor point and looking for the best spot (im fairly new). the problem is that the best spot... putting my middle finger in the corner of my mouth... is causing some scraping or rubbing of my cheek. Is this normal and i have to develop a callus? or am i doing something really wrong?

Anyone with the same issue?

No.

It is not normal, but it is common to see people post similar problems on here from time to time. Scraping the face, hitting the nose, etc. I can't tell you why, but it could be any number of things. Exact anchoring point, type of glove or tab, etc. etc. Without someone seeing you shoot, it will be hard to tell you the exact reason this is happening. If you can't have someone watch, try tweaking your anchor point, face angle, etc. you definitely don't want or need to build up a callous on your face.

Try looking at the target and when you draw your string back don't turn your face to get your anchor. Keep your face still and when you draw pull your string into your anchor don't move your face, remember to keep looking at the target. It should help good luck.

If your tab is new which I don't know. When I get a new be tab a tear up my cheek a little. And I also agree with The Whittler.

I had always anchored at the corner of my mouth then one day after shooting I notice the end of my nose was bleeding. My vision in my right eye apparently got so bad that my left eye had become dominant and I , being right handed was trying to compensate. Anyway I now have learned to anchor on my chin laying the string across my nose. No more scraping and shooting better

The cheek is behind the corner of your mouth, so your hand is brushing your cheek. Sounds like you may have to trim your tab, or soften its edges, or the finger stalls, if you are using a glove.

Or that isn't the right place. Try moving your hand further back along your jaw line. Corner of the mouth is just the most popular spot it seems, not necessarily the best.

Develop a callous on your face? I'm no expert but I would have to say that's a definite no-no. Some good advice from the other posters.

If I get lazy with my fingers and have "relaxed hooks", the nock scrapes my face

Thanks for all the comments. It seems like a dumb question but i see how everyone shoots and im supposed to be shooting the same. Sorry for missing info, i didnt think some one will comment. This is what i missed.

Shooting with a glove (was using neet glove which is soft, changed to the neet glove which has reinforced tips and is just 3 leather strings with a button to attach the wrist lace).

I am now left eye dominant but shoot right handed always. I try to close my left eye to align and then just open it a little (which im getting used to).

When i pull i pull the bow with the arrow pointing above the targets, and then anchor and "aim" (somewhat insctintive + gap), then i release. I am now doing uncounciously something that is helping me... im pulling, getting my middle finger close to my mouth and i open a little my mouth and get the tip of the glove finger anchored in the lips (helps me feel the same place every time).

Maybe im doing it all wrong... ill ask a friend to take a video or picture.

ecalvillo, I had a bout with that back many decades ago. What I found out is I wasn't really staying tight against my face, and that made the string move in toward it. Once I started anchoring solidly into my cheek, it stopped. I have the same anchor...index in corner of mouth, and top of my draw hand up under my cheek bone.

Turn your face towards the target or bring your wrist closer to your neck
