I am pretty new at string making. I twisted up a 2 bundle B50 string last night. Stretched it on a 50# bow, going to use it on a 40# bow. Question: String looks round and nice most of the length, but one end is flat bundles and ribbon looking. What do I need to do, put in more back twists?

Stroke the string back and forth as you put in the twist, to even them out. Watch the video from Bear Paw, she does a great job of giving step by step instructions, and Rick Barbee has some good info in his videos. Keep at it, you will get better the more you make. A good waxing of the strands before I twist helps me..

A few arrows shot through it will round it out too.

It's a little more time consuming, but I like to actually separate the strands of each bundle after twisting the first loop. Then gather them together and wax them. Then put in the counter twists and then twist the second loop. Has given me a nice round string every time.

Once I get both loops completed and put about ten twists in the string, I hold it tight and rub up and down with a piece of leather folded over the string. It will get hot, round out and blend together. Make another ten twists and rub it again. Makes a nice round smooth string.

I follow the method used by meatCKR. Make first loop, separate strands for each bundle, wax bundles, counter twists, then make second loop. If the bundles don't marry together through the string length then I pull apart one loop and start again. I record the number of counter twists and all measurements so I can duplicate the string.
