My son is getting married there October 1. I will be there for a few days and would like to check out some bows if anyone can recommend some builders in that area?

Silvetips are made over in Columbia Falls.

Toelke is in Ronan, which is about 50 miles south. Several bowyers around Hamilton, but that's about 150 miles south of Whitefish if memory serves.

I was in Whitefish for a week back in July, a great little town with everything convenient. Dan Toelke's shop is an hour and twenty minutes or so down rt. 93, a beautiful drive along Flathead Lake as you go. I suspect there are in-stock bows representing every model in Dan's line at the shop for you to shoot.

Hamilton is south of Missoula, but if you are coming from that direction, driving, it might be worth checking for bowyers in the area.

Robertson Stykbow Forest Grove MT. above Billings probably a couple hours east

AND in addition: Centaur in Corvallis, Dale Dye in Grantsdale, Howard Hill, Selway and Thunderhorn in Hamilton, and Bears Paw Bows in Lakeside. All within a couple hours drive of the affore- mentioned. Better plan on spending a few days.

Forest Grove is almost 6 hours SE of Whitefish. Long haul. Montana is huge.

The new guys that bought RER moved to Montana too, but don't know where it is in relationship to where you will be.

You didn't specify how close to Whitefish, but I think Oregon doesn't qualify as Whitefish region. Although, it is closer than Texas. I've been to Whitefish...a beautiful little place.

Schafer Silvertip/Dave Windauer has his shop in Columbia Falls which is 5 minutes from Whitefish... really great bows and a great guy as well... http://www.schafersilvertipbows.com/

George, I think you are confusing Corvallis, MT with the same in Oregon. The one in Montana is in Ravalli County south of Missoula I believe. And Forest Grove, OR outside of Portland, is not what the poster here is referring to I don't believe.

Robertson Stykbow is now in Thompson Falls, down and around the corner from Ronan and Toelke bows, Both very nice bows and people, and RER is in Bozeman, 2 hours west of Billings.

Have a blast, a lot to see.

Thanks Calvin, I automatically correlated Corvallis with Oregon. My bad.

I've been in Thompson Falls also...a couple times. The first time I was there was in 1988 and I was riding a bicycle. It was a beautiful ride that day from Sandpoint, ID.

Robertson is not in T Falls anymore, left after a few months... issues with selling his property in Mont. as I understand. Our loss. Do visit the Toelke family. Can't imagine a better service after the sale bowyer. Seven days to reduce weight on two whips.

George, you went by Clark Fork and didn't drop in to say hello! Maybe next trip.

Windauer is between Columbia Falls and Creston MT- a little more than 5 minutes from Whitefish. As a matter of interest this area of Montana might be the most concentrated group of high-end boyers in the US. If you locate the towns of Columbia Falls, Lakeside, Ronan, Corvallis, Hamilton, and Grantsdale on a map you can get a picture of how close 7 well-known boyers are to one another. As they say, the last best place.

I would highly recommend stopping in Columbia Falls and visiting the Windauer family. Great people. My family stayed with them a couple years ago before heading to Glacier National Park. I even hand picked the wood for my new bow. Awesome family and awesome bows.

Wish I were there. But I will be this summer, coming from Canadian Rockies and down thru Glacier on road trip vacation. Might just have to stop at Toelkes and order my wife a little bow. Goerge, no worries, Corvallis, Mt isn't exactly an everyday word. That's some bike ride too, bet it was an A1 experience.

Rob,

Just call Dan and Jared Toelke before you stop at their shop.

Being avid hunters, they may be out hunting in October!

A trip to Ronan to see them will be very worthwhile.

Thanks for all the info looking forward to checking them out. I skied at whitefish a few times about 30 years ago, beautiful region. My son and fiance go there often throughout the year, they love it, hence the wedding location. glad they didn't pick Europe for the wedding!
