Folks, for the last five years, there has been an addition to the Howard Hill Southeastern Classic here in Alabama. The "ONE SHOT~ONE KILL" competition for those that use a Howard Hill or Howard Hill style bow.

The targets were set up at longer distances and much more challenging. After all, Howard Hill was known for his longer and more challenging exploits with his bow.

These past 5 competitions had a very unique plaque that was being shot for and those competing could only use wooden arrows.

Staring this year, those that want to compete will be shooting for a special longbow made by Joel Templin. I'll be putting more details about this beautiful bow and I'm hoping Joel will post some of photos as well.

NOW, those that want to compete can use not only wood, BUT, they also can use carbon or aluminum arrows as well.

The cost for this extra competition is still only $10.00, but you better practice because as the name implies, it is a "One Shot~One Kill" chance at this outstanding prize.

Don't forget the dates of the HH Classic, June 3, 4 & 5, 2016 at Tannehill State Park in McCalla, AL. www.tannehill.org

This is what Joel Templin with "JET Archery sent me.

This bow is a new addition to my line and is called the "Dave Wallace Special". Dave is an 8 time IBO World champion. He has endorsed JET Longbows and will be shooting a JET Longbow in the IBO shoot this year.

The Dave Wallace Special has a high figured KOA riser which is one of the rarest woods in the world and only grows in Hawaii. This bow has 3 laminations of heat tempered bamboo. Glass is caramel on the belly and brown on the back. It has approximately 1/2" of backset. It is 68" 50# @ 28". This bow retails for $725 and will be featured on my site shortly.

Thanks Joel

Folks, if you want a challenging yet fun competition, you need to get or borrow a Howard Hill or HH style bow and shoot this competition.

It WILL challenge your skill with a bow.

I wonder if that means Dave Wallace has stopped making his own bows ? I bought mine from a regular here, and it's my favorite longbow !

Sure hate to see the arrow change. longbow class in a lot of places means wood arrows only. the guys coming in with the ultra lite carbons and precision lite aluminum will have a great advantage over the regular wood arrow shooter but I guess nothing is going to stay traditional for ever. maybe start a historical shoot.

BigDog, if you only knew.

Here's a photo of one of the unique plaque that was made for the last five years.

There was approximately 33 hours in each handmade plaque my friend Gerald Tomasovsky put in them.

Each of those plaques were made from woods estimated to be over 100 years old. They were large enough to hang one's longbow on the plaque.

The competitor could also only use wooden arrows. The first year I had the competition, there were a grand total of 38 participants and they went down from there. I promoted this part of the competition within the HH Classic every year, where were you my friend. I think you would have enjoyed this competition.

It seemed that wooden arrows were too hard to tune for some, but, others didn't seem to have a problem.

Last year was going to be the last year. Joel Templin wanted to try and continue and donate one of his bows, with the arrow requirements relaxed.

So, now you know. What seems like a great idea to some, wasn't so good for the masses. At least I tried.

I understand people want it there way are they don't want to play. Its just a sham they will not try a more traditional method or historical correct method just to have a little fun at a one shoot deal to much competitive attitude. I have shoot wood almost all my life of shooting did use some aluminums tried carbon but just enjoy making and shooting wood and the real thrill when I bring home the bacon with a arrow I made.

Folks, get those Howard Hill or Howard Hill style bows ready. No arrow restriction, wood, aluminum or carbon are allowed this year.

Again, you're shooting this part of the Howard Hill Classic competition for a JET Archery bow specially made for this part of the shoot..

I'll be posting the bow specs a little later.

I hope somebody wins it with wooden arrows. - lbg

It would be nice, but even Howard Hill tested aluminum arrows for Easton, if I'm not mistaken.

I just hope folks enjoy this part of the competition.

I spoke with Joel Templin today and I'll be receiving the bow he made exclusively for the "ONE SHOT~ONE KILL", can't wait to get it.

Jason, for the 1st five years of the "OSOK" competition, only wooden arrows were used. As you can see above, a really beautiful and unique award. The most participants I ever had for this competition was 38 (the 1st year). It went down from there.

Everyone that shot the competition said it was set up perfect for them, very challenging but fun.

So, I tried and last year would have been the last had it not been for Joel Templin.

We'll see where it goes from here.

Terry, I have no doubt that you have received steady complaints about the wood arrow requirement for the competition but go back and look at the original announcement and following posts about the event, Howard Hill himself and the traditional aspect etc.. You should have let the whiners keep whining and stayed with wood arrows.

Florida lime;

I to have one of the Dave Wallace longbows (and one on order) I love mine and is my primary bow

Its a great fit for me

From: bigdog21
Date: 07-Apr-16

I under stand no carbon then not enough shooter for what it takes to get the great prizes , but it a sad group when some guys cant visit a time gone buy for one shoot or just one shot. to take time they had a year to build one wood arrow to keep part of history real. if I was to shoot and win with a carbon I would fill I cheated the others and it would mean so much more to win with a arrow I built my self the way of the past. not against carbon but something need to stay original. I would never take a auto shotgun are ar 15 to a civil war enactment.

From: Andy Man
Date: 07-Apr-16

agree with that

From: THarris
Date: 10-Apr-16

bigdog21, those that had THAT arrow, had FIVE YEARS to do just that. I know it's hard for some of you to understand that I wanted that as well.

BUT, you might feel a little bit different if you were taking the extra time to set up, BY YOURSELF, 25 target situations for fun yet challenging shots, also putting out the extra stakes, for VERY LITTLE PARTICIPATION.

Those of you that know me, have seen how I set up my courses, that know I do put thought in my set ups.

So, it's little frustrating for me myself, because I know there are lots of traditional shooters out there that have shot this part of the Howard Hill competition.that loved it.

I kept letting the people know that if participation didn't pick up, i wasn't going to put the extra time and effort, NOR, ask the gentleman to put 33 hours of hard work making those beautiful plaques to continue the "OSOK".

NOW, when you folks that are so adamant wanting to keep something like this going, and if you decide put your own tournament on, I'll do my best to come and support you.

I know I'm venting, so please don't take offense. I love putting on my events and I truly believe others have enjoyed them as well.

That'll be the last point I'll make on this segment.

Terry I understand and behind you. I know you half to do what it takes to keep it going. Just tired of all the ones that half to take the fun out of it just to win, and not keep it real for the fun of it. competition use to be fun,

I am hoping to make this next year and if the OSOK shoot is still going, I will shoot it, preferably with carbons if the rules allow, not because of some huge advantage, as I shoot 55 pounds and 525 grain arrows, but because that is what I have tuned for. Sounds fun and the pics in the other thread look great, hope everyone has a good time, and the OSOK is a success, regardless of the arrows used.

PS I do understand the want of the people to use woods only, but I also know it sucks to put in a huge effort setting things up only for people to not show.

From: THarris
Date: 12-Apr-16

Thanks Jerome, I hope it's still going on as well. I believe a different Howard Hill Style bowyer will do a bow for next year.

I've seen pics of the JET Archery bow, you really need to come this year as well.

Brandon, I just received the JET Archery bow, the "Dave Wallace" bow. It's a beautiful bow, the RISER WOOD is gorgeous, and according to Joel, it IS a shooter.

I think it'll make a make addition to someone's collection, BUT, ya got to win it, RIGHT?

I'll post some photos of it later today.

Here it is folks. The "Dave Wallace" special from JET Archery. Tebow is 50# at 28 inch draw, right handed. The riser wood is KOA only found in Hawaii.

Folks, better start practicing, it'll be worth it for this bow.

Folks, this will be a challenging part of the Howard Hill Classic. If you think the "OSOK" competition will be easy, think again. I always set this part of the course challenging, but yet, still fun.

Even if you have to borrow a Howard Hill style bow, this will be worth it. The JET Archery bow is valued well over $700.00.
