I've been playing around with shooting 3 under. It is louder, but I'm shooting better. Do I need to adjust brace height? Randy

You should tune for 3under, and that likely includes a brace adjustment.

I have shot three under for 25 years and find that I have to raise my knocking point about 1/8 inch is all. Brace height will have an effect on noise, seems to increase the lower you go. Just my two cents.

Your bow is nosier with three under because the limbs are now slightly out of time with each other. When you move your fingers down the string, the lower limb bends slightly more than the upper limb, that allows the upper limb to return to battery faster than the lower. It will also increase hand shock. Bob

If you don't retune the bow then yes, it will be a bit louder. Most times your nock point will need moved up a hair when making the change from a bow that was tuned to shoot split finger. Having said that, I shoot 3 under and all of my bows are quiet and certainly don't exhibit hand shock.

I don't see why brace height would necessarily need to be adjusted. Typically, adjusting to even tiller(ILF)or raising the nock point(non-ILF)are the changes made when switching to 3U.

Thanks guys, will start with raising the nock. Randy

Ranman, that is a good start and as you tune you will find what is necessary. Brace is just one aspect of tuning, but you may still need to adjust that and actually should to see where it works best for that style.

Move your nock up and that takes care of the limb timing. I've found that most guys tend to get a noisier bow because of the change in their release. Some guys for some reason tend to not relax their fingers when they start 3under causing the string to flip around their fingers and make more noise. Some will even get sore finger tips at first.
