Well after some attempted horse trading, and even some attempted selling, I've decided to keep the 66 Kodiak. I have also decided to take the camo off and refinish it. It will take me awhile since I'm sanding and not using any chemicals. No hurry anyway. Thought I would post the first day of messing, and what's underneath the paint.

That is looking good so far, and I'm also not a fan of camo.
Your bow reminded me of that '66 camo that turned out to be a prototype Black Beauty in all phenolic. It had the correct serial for a '66, but underneath was that very rare Bear we all hope to find one day.
Are you using wipe on poly or tru oil?

Haven't decided yet Blackhawk. I want to really take my time on this one. The limbs are that nice brown color glass also.

Thanks for posting I'm curious to see if it was a "second" with a cosmetic blemish , plain wood or if it was just a painted beauty. So far it looks good ! I have a 66' k mag in factory camo that I have often wondered what's under the paint

Very Nice George. How could anyone not wonder whats under all that paint? I wonder if the guy who painted that bow at Bear Archery. Thought to himself....Hmmmmm. Boy the guy who strips the paint off that bow someday is going to be very pleased indeed;-)

George....all I've ever used to take the factory camo off of those is laquer thinner on a rag . NO sandpaper! It dosn't affect the finish underneath which is usually still glossy. As long as you don 't keep rubbing on it after the paint is removed.

Yah.... Had a friend that wanted me to finish a camo grizzly he started on with sandpaper. I finished taking off the camo with laquer thinner on a rag. Everything under that camo was perfect including the finish and the specs that were also under the paint. The part he had done with sandpaper was a mess! Took four times as long to make the bow look decent again, than if he had never started on it in the first place!
