I worked on improving my winter range under my deck using an old power rack as its foundation. I will also be able to use it for paper tuning.

Would love to see where others, especially in northern climates, shoot during the cold winter months.

My winter range is just my yard. Get the 3D deer target out of the shed and put it in the yard. This year I want to build something more permanent like the one in this picture. Having a roof over it would be even greater.

Blackstick-

I can get a 13 yard shot in my basement as well. Sometimes it is just the way to go!

During the summer I have a nice range in the yard but I move some up to the barn/driveway for winter.

What's a winter range? Just go out and shoot in the snow.

Treeman-

A winter range is where one shoots in the winter. Might be the same as summer and might not be.

Kodiaktd- My target set up is very similar to the one you pictured. Couple things I learned since the first build I had: The roof makes a huge difference. Give it a good amount of overhang. Compress the bales! Doesn't need to be complicated; I built the frame slightly smaller than the bales, drew the sides snug with a strap or rope, and screwed the side upright to the top piece with long lag bolts, to drw them in tight. Nice tight bales that don't fall apart or rot.

Oh, and I fastened a piece of stall mat to the back of the frame. Had way too many pass thru's before I smartened up to that.

This is from last month, pictured is a Mckenzie bear. We have about half the amount of snow now. Just thankful for the snow this year! DJ

Buckhunter-

That is a GREAT range, summer, winter, anything in-between. Being able to leave your targets out and protected from the elements is a good thing!!

Here's my year-round range; a field behind my son's house that's about 600 yards long. The hills to the east of it are part of a 5,700-acre state park where I hunt, and then Penobscot Bay is just over the hills.

It's a perfect spot for any kind of shooting...and once in a while, Tom even brings me out a cup of coffee! Life is good.
