The angle on the Firefly wasn't right for the sage limbs, so I decided to use the 45.00 sage limbs on another project. Friend gave me a Darton SL-50 years ago, and I hated it as a compound, so it sat stripped waiting on a junk pile for the right momemt.

Found an article that showed how to use the old rockers off the compound limbs and mount them onto new recurve limbs without the ugly sage type metal bracket.

These are 40# limbs on a sage riser that comes out to 62" AMO, and the darton riser is just about perfect as it is 62 AMO with a five pound increase in poundage bolted straight on tightened down.

So now I have a cheap Darton/Sage recurve!

The Sage limbs have a recessed taper shoulder bolt pin adapter, so I had to find some 5/16 x 18 flat head (bevel shouldered) allen screws. Installed an adjustable spring arrow rest on the riser and shooting off that adjustable for spine and POI. The riser had he original grip, but might adapt another wood grip to it. Not perfect where the limb butt ends meet the riser, but what the heck for a cheap knock around bow that shoots fantastic. I like the profile, and it's running a 7.25 inch brace height as it's adjusted now. Just got a cheap endless loop dacron string from another bow on it, but the Sage limbs can take FF so will do that later. Just popped it together to see where I'm headed with the project. The riser paint is still in super condition.

A few of the old compounds had this funny rocker on the limbs so that you could adjust the weight range. The picture shows the half round rocker.

Problem was the the rock sits above the limb pad, so it increases the angle of the pad angle, and at first I was just going to use a leather pad to equalize the space.

But then I realized that I could use the rocker to adjust the angle of the limbs much like the pin does on an ILF setup. By turning the limb bolt out I could adjust the poundage. So at 2 turns out I decreased the poundage from 46 pounds to about 42 pounds. Shot about 50 arrows through it tonight set up this way.

Not sure if I should use a spacer or just let the limb bolt float like it is? What's you thought on this?

Here is a closeup of the setup right now. Shooting very accurate, smooth and quiet as it is.

Hey there HVR-

That's a pretty cool set-up. If it were me I would use some sort of spacer, like a rubber washer, or leather like you mentioned. Just seems like it would keep your bow quiet and also be a less harsh environment on the nomenclature of the bow over time. Happy shooting, Dan

Good work there HVR. I've been meaning to try an SL-30 or 50 for one of my bolt on projects as well. How long is that riser?

It's a 19 inch riser.

I think a spacer is going to be necessary. Since the limb butts are not supported like ILF limbs, I don't think they will take the beating as they are meant to be bolt down.

Thinking I might nix the adjustable angle bit, since they are not meant to take that strain.

Think I might buy a set of those black bear ILF plates on ebay from Glen, and then screw them onto this riser so I can use both bolt on sage limbs AND ILF limbs! How cool would that be!

That's a good length riser. That ILF bolt on option is a slick Idea also. Wi;; the limb bolts allow you to bottom the limbs out on the limb bed?

The limb bolts are not a problem, because you can buy the flat head allen socket taper shoulder bolts at most good hardware stores in various lengths (5/16 x 18 thread). There is quite a bit of threading into the riser body, so it's very adjustable. But it's the rocker that keeps the other end off the limb pad. Either I will have to grind down those rockers flush or just bolt the sage limbs on flat and use a pin.

Very NICE!!!!!!!

Got it. I use an index pin on all of mine. But that does present a problem if you want to go back and forth between ILF and non ILF. You could drill and thread the ILF plate for a small cap screw to act as the index pin. That way you could remove it when you wanted to put ILF limbs on it.

HVR looks like the setup on my Martin Diablo only it has sides on the rocker to keep limbs straight. I read where this is the same riser as one of their compound bows. This is a 2013 bow before they changed hands. Randy

FTP, exactly my line of thinking.

Drill a hole in the plate and thread the hole so I can use the hole in the limb pad both as a retainer for my ILF plate and as a reference alignment hole for the sage limbs.

Good job HVR! Sure would like to read that articule. I've got a coupla' risers that the technique you used would work. Chuck

Article was on a different forum so sent you a link by PM Chuck.

If it's not against LW rules, I can post the link here as it is informative for anyone else desiring to use the old compounds with that rocker.
