Picked up a 57 Kodiak Special 64" 49# Have been shooting 60" Kodiaks and thought I would give a longer bow a try. The Bear catalog states draw for 64" to be 25"-27". I draw 28". The catalog list different draws for each change in bow length. Is this just recommendations for target shooting or can you overdraw these bows? Thanks

I'd wager you misread that.

The catalog says the 57 Kodiak draw lengths are:

56" - up thru 26", 60" - 25 thru 28", 64" 28" and up.

It's still a Kodiak, and that is what Bear's catalog addresses, as Phil's post shows.

Does your catalog say: "Regardless of length, all Bear bows are weighed and marked at 28" draw and are so guaranteed"? Does your catalog show a Kodiak being drawn to a point where the tips are 12" apart? bvd

As stated on your catalog page, bow lengths and draw lengths are for peak performance. They were all measured at 28" and should be ok to use at that draw length. I doubt if anyone follows those guide lines today. For years, Bear torture tested their bows by using a special pulley to draw them so that the tips were 12" apart. Dick Mauch touches on it in his TBM interview in the june/july 2014 issue. bvd

I've owned that bow. They draw smooth well past 28" regardless of what the catalog says;-)

Yea I didn't think I would stress it, but am not familiar with target bows. Haven't seen that stated before. Thanks

So your draws 1 inch over the optimum. I have been shooting a 70" 50lbs for close to 17 years at 32" draw which is also 1" over the optimum. It shoots great and pulling a 50+- year old bow 32" for between 16 and 17 years to me is the ultimate test.

That is what mine looks like. I believe it is a 57. Wow a 32" draw. I didn't know they made a 70" until I saw this add. Thanks for posting

Thanks for this thread. I have a 68", 53#@30" LH version, which I have been told could be a 55 or 56- maybe a 57? Very cool bow- seems long for my draw length, but shoots really well even at 28" draw.

Dan...that's a 55 or 56. 55 has decals....56 has silkscreens

The 57 has the same tombstone sight window as the 55 and 56. Tan glass back and belly.
