I was wondering what methods are used for gluing on riser overlays. I normally sand down the glass, acetone glass/overlays, and then use smooth on. I normally put the bow/limbs under pressure of a air hose and form. I have also just clamped them down. I have let them cure at room temp and also baked them in the heat box for a couple hours. I have had some that could never be peeled off and then others that have just not grabbed tight and eventually lift. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks. Drew

I sand with 80grit,blow off, wipe clean with acetone, blow off again and glue with gorilla superglue gel, then clamp. JF

On glass bows, I sand in a crosshatch pattern with 40 or 50 grit paper, clean with denatured alcohol(all overlay pieces), apply Smooth On to each and every gluing surface, wrap with Saran Wrap, clamp, throw a work light near it and throw a towel over it to hold the heat.

I haven't had any trouble with limb tip overlays, just the riser back and belly overlays that want to lift on occasion. thanks.

My little trick is to carefully shape the overlay to PERFECTLY fit the limb, and epoxy on. No issues in 5 years, but I only use bloodwood and dacron thread strings wrapped in the loops with Brownells serving. I'm not too high performance, I'm afraid.

I use super glue and never have a problem. buy 4 of the black tubes at Wally world for $1.57

Here's how I do it, but I make a lot of bows. 80 grit paper, acetone, Smooth-On, and a short fire hose. Pump it up and place in a warm spot overnight. DO NOT PUT IT BACK IN THE HEATBOX. Your limbs may de-laminate. Trust me.
