Hi folks, it's time to start thinking about getting an early start on the 3D archery season for 2016.

The American Traditional Archer along with Compton Traditional Bowhunters will again be hosting the 7th annual Pre Spring Arrow Fling.

What better way to start shedding that rust and cabin fever than by making the trip to Tannehill Historical State Park in McCalla, AL. The dates for 2016 are February 26, 27 & 28, 2016.

There's plenty of greta motels for those that don't camp, but, tremendous camp sites and unlimited primitive camp sites for those to DO like to camp.

There will be plenty of unbelievable Vendors here and Compton Traditional Bowhunters will again be hosting their outstanding youth events on Saturday.

I'll be posting photos, and other information along the way.

Here's hoping that everyone has a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

By the way, for those of you that don't know what the "American Traditional Archer" is, here's a brief explanation.

The "American Traditional Archer" is a publication that I mail out at the beginning of each year with now over 90 events such as the Pre Spring Arrow Fling listed all across the country.

If you're interested in receiving this publication being becoming a member of the ATA, email me and I'll email you the details how. VERY CHEAP!!!

Traditions Leathercraft is sure hoping to make it out there this year! Getting out of the Oklahoma cold and sharing camp, shooting with friends and making new friends sounds great!

For primitive camping do we need to call ahead and make arrangements?

Thanks - K.C.

Folks, while you're here and you want to relax from flingin arrows (I can't believe that of course), there's many things to see at Tannehill.

Here's a few of Tannehill's sites to see. Here are some photos of the Blast Furnace that was actually used during the Civil War.

that's the cleanest forest floor I've ever seen! can there be camp fires and if so what's your experiences getting firewood,, I know it can run out at campsites when there is a high volume of people but do other people bring some forsale on the side,, that type of thing? do you need your own fire rings.

From: THarris
Date: 10-Jan-16

Hi Ted, yes, camp fires are welcome and I try to have plenty of firewood and I also have a guy that can bring extra. Folks have collected rocks for their rings, if you have one you can bring, feel free.

NINETEEN DAYS AWAY!!!

Folks, Tannehill Historical State Park is one of the best places I ever seen to hold such an event as the Pre Spring Arrow Fling.

Tremendous camping for those that RV camp, unlimited primitive camping, three bathhouses, bilking and hiking trails, a Church for those that hate to miss sunday service (although our friend Matt Steed will be hosting a Sunday Service close to the registration area on Sunday morning.

For those that don't camp, there are several great motels and restaurants within minutes of the Park.

Following are a few photos at Tannehill.

3Rivers Archery has decided, instead, of donating a DAS Bow, I spoke with Johnathan Karch and he wants to donated one of their Tomahawk "Legacy" 3 piece takedown longbows. WOW, it's a beautiful bow folks, thank you Johnathan.

Thanks Pappy,

Folks, let's not forget, after the drawing the raffle tickets, Kevin "Rocky" Rockwell's wife is bringing one of his favorite bows to auction off with those proceeds going to the Boy Scout Camp as well.

NOW, everyone that got their raffle tickets for the Camp knew that each ticket was a dollar apiece or an arms length worth of tickets for $20.00 and two arms lengths for $35.00.

Those arms lengths usually averaged anywhere from 78 to 160 tickets for the $20 & $35 they put down.

This year, I'm making it easier and a little more interesting. For $20 you get 80 tickets and for $40, you get 200 tickets. After all, it's about raising money for the Boy Scout Camp and you actually get more tickets for the price.

Terry Harris

From: OklaLeatherMan Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 17-Feb-16

Terry you can put me down for $100 worth of tickets. Plus I'll be happy to donate a handmade leather quiver for you all too use to raffle or however you want to raise money for your event.

Thanks Pappy,

Yep, one week away, can you believe it's been a year.

AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES!!!

Last year was the worst for our weather for the Pre Spring Arrow Fling. On Monday we were setting up the courses on a cloudy day that never got out of the 30's.

Had a snow storm on Wednesday and a cold rain on Thursday. Started out at 21 degrees on a cloudy Friday.

Saturday was the only day that was a beautiful day and Sunday was cloudy with threatening rain.

GREAT NEW THOUGH, next weekend looks as though we're gonna have OUTSTANDING WEATHER.

Harold, you can shoot till your fingers fall off for only $35.00 for the entire weekend, as many rounds as you can get in. Plus, I feed you free on Saturday night, chili and tea supper.

Camping in your van is just like primitive camping, which is $20.00 per night, but you qualify for a 15% discount because of your age ($17.00 per night).

From: THarris

Folks, let's see now.

There are FIVE BOWS, totaling approximately somewhere between $3,500 & $4,000, not to mention somewhere between $1,000 & $2,000 in other donated items for these packages to raffle off for the Boy Scout Camp.

Mr. Harris thank you for your pricing answers. Have couple more questions.what do you think your night time temps. Would be, am deciding what sleeping bag to bring. Am also setting up a trad. bow to shoot I happen to gap shoot, what do you think estimated longest and shortest distance shots would be? Thank you again.

From: eddie c
Date: 23-Feb-16

Harold, if Terry sets up like he does for the Howard Hill Classic, the shots will be reasonable hunting distance shots with maybe one or 2 reasonable long shots in the field for variety. I was hoping to make it this year for my first Spring Fling trip but due to certain family situation(s) I will not be able to make it. I had a choice between this one and the HH Classic this year, I guess I will make the Classic instead.

someone miss an easy target for me. LOL I usually do. LOL

From: THarris
Date: 23-Feb-16

Harold, the temp forecasts look like mid thirties.

Also Harold, since this is a non-competitive event, there's only one stake, just to keep everyone lined up per target (safety). Once you see the distances, if you want to back up or get closer, coke shots with your friends, etc, please do so.

JUST MAKE IT FUN!!!

Terry Harris

From: THarris
