Anyone know anything about the Martin Scorpion? I just saw it for the first time on the Martin website, is it just a Martin hunter with a new color scheme? If not, whats the difference?

could be an import. the last person with any knowledge of shaping, glue-up, etc. left a few months ago.

Sounded interesting so I went to the Martin website. Say's "Hand shaped in the USA". So is it an import, or made here in the USA. It kind of reminds me of the old Saber. I liked that recurve.

Looks lime the Hunter but with lots of carbon in it.

Who left Mr. Hatfield?

Looks like a Hunter with different riser wood and carbon. Says made in USA so not an import.

Jim G we have our bowyers in the plant still but the state is on lockdown as other states are. We actually just brought on another new talented bowyer because our trad production increased. NONE of our bows in the Damon Howatt line will EVER be built overseas! EVERY SINGLE Damon Howatt bow is still hand built in America by our skilled American bowyers. The Scorpion is built using the same load of original Action Wood Gail purchased a while ago. This is what disappoints me is when i see things like this mentioned that aren't true. It's how viscous rumors start. Every bowyer we have at Damon Howatt is a highly skilled craftsman. Some are new and some have been there for years. We are still building and shaping our bows by hand in Walla Walla Washington. We are still using the exact same equipment Larry built and used. I posted videos of our new larger plant on Facebook in the Damon Howatt bow owners group. Damon Howatt bows are still 100% hand built in America in Walla Walla Washington. All we did is acquire a new larger facility but we are still located in Walla Walla on East Isaacs Ave in the Port Authority area. To answer the op question, our Scorpion is our carbon hotrod based from the Hunter design. It has a grey action wood with white phenolic riser with a carbon lam. I hope that clears up any concerns or rumors being circulated. If anyone is in the Walla Walla area, we are more than happy to offer a plant tour after we are able to fire the plant back up with the virus lockdown going on. The only thing different we have done is we added another manufacturing facility on the east coast in North Carolina for the Martin compound bow division. Otherwise it's business as usual at Damon Howatt. If anyone has any questions about Damon Howatt or our bows please feel free to reach out to me directly. I'm not on here every day but you can also reach me on Facebook under Mike Bush with the Damon Howatt profile picture. I hope this clears up any rumors circulating.

DHMike- I hope you were not referring to me concerning the import status of the bows and "viscous rumors". MStyles and Larry Hatfield brought it up. I looked at the website and it clearly says "made in USA" and that's what I stated in my post. I was asking Mr. Hatfield who left that would know about these bows as he inferred that someone was 'missing' in his post.

JimG no i wasn't referring to you sorry if it came out that way. There have been a lot of rumors floating around lately. I'm trying to address anything negative about Damon Howatt before it gets out of hand and people pass rumors around to others. Same as we don't have any bowyers that know how to shape or glue up yet we actually hired the head bowyer that worked under Larry for many years as a consultant to come in and revise anything we needed to change to get Damon Howatt back to that era of quality when Larry ran the plant. When Larry mentioned it may be a overseas model a lot of people would just assume we are having our trads imported now just because Larry said that. It's how rumors are started with people assuming things that aren't true. We never have and never will have Damon Howatt bows outsourced from our facility in Walla Walla. We are very proud to carry on the Damon Howatt name and quality of how we build them the same as when Gail owned it.

DHMike, I only have one negative thing to say about Damon Howatt, YOU CAN'T FIND THE DARN BOWS for sale anywhere! And it's not just this virus issue either. I would like to look at and handle a Hunter and a Mamba but no one ever seems to have them in stock. I believe the last time I looked at 3Rivers website it said they were special order only. I owned a Martin/Nirk Rebel many years ago. I liked the bow and wish I still had it. I don't know who made it for Martin but I assume it was Damon Howatt. American made matters to me and I hope Damon Howatt is able to get more product into dealers hands so that archers are able to handle them and shoot them.

Oh and concerning rumors, you might want to check the 'Damon Howatt is hiring' thread as there is discussion on the factory closing and moving to Michigan or some such thing.

We do realize this is a 5'ish year old thread? And that's when the suggestion of the bow being an import was mentioned.

From: RJH1
Date: 20-May-20

fdp, I caught that too. Most people just react without looking at everything. But internet so.....

From: DHMike

Jim G we are trying to get our trads in every shop we can but if shops don't have customers bugging them to carry or test shoot them they won't stock them. We also have sales reps that can bring demo models in for people to test shoot them if a local dealer wants to line it up with their area sales rep. I saw this was a old thread that was bumped up by someone so i wanted to answer what i could on it seeing that the questions were never addressed.

What draw length would the scorpion handle?

I almost bought one years ago from Lancaster archery but with my 30” draw I went with a longer recurve.

I still love the looks of them.

Boker we can scale any model to your draw length. The Scorpion we draw test to 36".
