I have been looking for one of these for a long time and at a decent weight and price. The stars finally lined up perfectly for me a couple of weeks ago on the big auction site...this one went under most folk's radar!
Not a mark on it. I don't think it was used much at all as it has no signs of handling or being carried in the bush.
It's # is E-262, the last series built before the Gamemaster Jet, and it's 60# which is heavier than most. I have only seen pictures of one of these before but in hand it is just stunning.
Smooth drawing. Looking forward to shooting it!

Brace with a string I had on a 66 Swift Wing is 7" to deepest part of grip. Judging from how the string is laying on the limb grooves seems like a good starting point. That's the pics so far...just need to put a side plate on...looks like that was the original rest!

You did good! That's a looker and I'm sure it will be a shooter too! 60# is too "manly" for me these days.

Feather rests were original on all of Jack Howard's bows.
Saw that one which was too heavy to come visit my stable of its brothers.

Good to know about the rest Kelly....I knew you had a few of these already...seeing yours was what gave me the bug in fact.
Would this have been built in the late 60's?

moose hunter...they were built before the Jet...the Jet had multiple lams and looked very different.
Here's the ad for one.
It gets Frisky all twisted up as it rightfully claims that it's the fastest bow in the world. Only way Joe's Slow as Death-Master would be that fast is if (and I quote the Mighty Legend) he threw it off a cliff! Pete

I watched that one, too, but my heart was looking elsewhere, so I know where it ended up , both who and how much, and I grinned because the stars lined up, indeed! Some really unusual old bows, many in amazing condition, are coming onto the auction block but flying under the radar these days. Even if it ain't as fast as advertised, it sure does look that way!

Yup, late 1960's is correct. Think first Jet was built in 1968. Yours looks to have been refinished, writing of serial number doesn't look right but then it is hard to tell here on my phone.

Good find Pete, they are beautiful bows. The ones made by Howatt, incidentally, were because Jack had so much demand for his bows he couldn't keep up, so he had those made with the Howard name. Not the Gamemaster by any stretch of the imagination. Only a third grade mentality would poke fun at Jack's bows.

The saddest part is that someone could have bought the whole shebang when Jack was no longer able to build bows but there were no takers. He was even willing to train someone. I was too flipping old and didn't have the wherewithal anyway but I'm sure that would have been a good move for someone more upwardly mobile. Like many other companies, they will never come back once gone.

Outbow, you talk as if you know something nobody else knows but you are so wrong. Jack did offer a Howard Hunter model that Howatt roughed out and sent to Jack for finishing. But Jack hand built his Gamemaster and Gamemaster Jet bows.

That's right. I think the model he had Howatt make were sold as the Howard Hunting Bow?
I couldn't believe an up and coming bowyer did not buy him out and learn from him. It would have been a small investment for a well respected/established brand.

(Damn!! Did I just write that!! No good will come of this...now I have to be a polite Canadian...move on...)
Anyway, Frisky's comment is accurate...it was the Howard Hunting Bows that were made by Howatt. Not this one though and certainly not the Gamemaster Jets...
It would have been a smart move to take over his business and learn from him...he was meticulous and dedicated to the craft and trad archery...when you read his articles he focused on accurate testing and straight talk- and he had an impressive record on game.

Here is a picture of one of my four Gamemasters, all with 200 series serial numbers. The reason I said about it being refinished is the number 2. On all four of mine that number is looped, as you can see in the picture, on the bottom.

hey Kelly...I looked at mine very close and the loop is not as pronounced (it's there) but the 2 is straight on the back, with an angle, not a curve, like yours. What do you know about the string material Jack preferred and did it make a difference?

Yup, it does make a difference. Over the years, I've used B-50 on some of my Jack Howard's and although they worked I very much prefer his string, vee polyester. Can't explain it but they just shoot better. Have even tried that string material on non Howard bows and they seem to shoot better. Only drawback is endless strings need to be made, Flemish can not.
Recently I acquired a quantity of this vee polyester string material, although it is limited.
