Pouring down rain here so I spent yesterday in my small work shop organizing and cleaning. Trying to make more room and get things where I can find them. Presently my bow oven is underneath the work bench. I thought about moving it to a unused corner and modify it vertically like a small closet. Would like your thoughts. I think it would work fine because my clamping method is the tried and true rubber bands.

I'd think you would have an uneven temp range thru the oven. I don't know squat about building bows so I don't know if that would be an issue.

I'm not a bowyer but I suspect it will be tough to keep the temp even. The top would be hotter.
I'd test it without a bow. If it hotter up top maybe add some vents to control the upper levels.

You could put a small fan in there to keep the air moving to regulate heat... just a thought.

The small fan (like from a computer tower) is used by bamboo fly rod makers in their ovens. Like drying glue heat tempering the bamboo needs to be done evenly. The small fan keeps the air flowing.

If your building glass bows i dont know ,ive been using an upright "6 by '6 piece of. Stove pipe to keep my osage warm and dry for years. I rotate end to end when i put them back in pipe after a work session.they hang in the pipe above a 75watt light bulb.

My hot box is heated by a ceramic heater with built in fan. This type of heat source won't get too hot, is easy to regulate and circulates evenly. Try it and you won't go back to light bulbs!
I have the heater mounted outside of the heat box with an opening cut into the box the size of the fan cube. Works great! I tried to post a photo of the heater but the remote server I'm on is wonky. Pm me if you want a photo.

I would just switch to silicon heaters blanket heater, they are on ebay for not too much, the bow ovens are enormous, well at least if you do any single piece bows. I agree it would be uneven. Worst case I would store it vertical, and then just use it horizontal.
I don't think they sell the light bulbs I need anyway, so my oven is on a short fuse as it is.
