I met Jim Davis at the Poke and Hope years ago. On a recent visit he dropped off 2 osage staves. This is snaky one has been calling my name. I don't work as fast or as long as when I started bowyering but I'll post some progress photos here and there. I apologise for the poor smartphone pictures. I may break out the SLR. Depends on my mood. Thanks, Jim. Jawge

Jim followed the grain for me in an initial layout. I used m hatchet to remove wood to the lines. Next step is ring chasing but heading to the woods for an afternoon hunt later. Jawge

Hope so, centerless. But we shall see. LOL.

Brad and Grey Fox, these days I'm happy just to spend a few hours in the woods.

Now's a good time to start a stave like that, you've got several months until spring and good shooting weather. Will be looking forward to watching the progress.

Don't travel too fast Jawge, there are some sharp turns there! For a fact, I didn't have the nerve to tackle that stave myself. Hope it works for you.

Gee Jawge, I don't know if you have the skills necessary for such a project. Maybe you should save it for me the next time I visit!

Really though, I can't wait to see it at the next Poke & Hope.

Thanks, Chief and Jim. These days bow building is slow anyway. LOL.

Gaur, the smartphone cameras are sure convenient but I'll go to the SLR for this.

Thanks, Jeff and Tradbob.

Well, I've got 1/3 of the stave chased to a ring.

Some parts are getting a bit thin but that's the way it goes.

The stave is 63" and I am currently contemplating making a slightly bend in the handle bow.

The situation is fluid. LOL.

Jawge, wish I was a fly in the corner to watch you do this. JF

JF, that is so nice. Questions welcomed, my friend. This is a tough build but I've made them from tougher staves. Jawge

I don't even know what questions to ask so I'll just observe. You guys that make these all wood bows, now that's some talant. JF

Ok, JF, but if I can do it anyone can. Jawge

The stave just got too thin in spots while ring chasing. Jawge

From: Gifford
Date: 29-Nov-15

Ah well, George, win some - lose some. It's the challenge that keeps bringing us back, year after year, stave after stave...

From: bradsmith2010
Date: 29-Nov-15

well ,, it does not take so much wood to make osage, are you sure,, maybe there is a short bow in there, I hate to give up on that one,,

From: George Tsoukalas
Date: 29-Nov-15

Thanks, Gifford. There is a shorty in there, Brad. I may continue. Jawge

From: bradsmith2010
Date: 29-Nov-15

give it a try,, shorties are fun,,

From: Pappy 1
Date: 30-Nov-15

You just never know until you get into the wood, sometimes with lots of time invested you loose. I am not big on shorties but who knows ,may be one in there and I am sure if anyone can find it you will. Pappy

From: George Tsoukalas

Thanks, Pappy. No you never know. Jawge

From: Arvin

I am with Pappy on the short bows. But to each his own. Good luck with it George. Arvin

From: AustinEvans

I say you keep on rockin and try and make a shorty out of it. Should make for an even more interesting build along. Austin

From: George Tsoukalas

Pap and Arvin, I may make a kid's bow out of it when I am a mind too. Jawge

Sorry it didn't work Jawge. My first attempt on osage did the same thing. Been working on hickory stick. Still clueless. Your website helped but I'm still lost. Any advice would be appreciated. Kenny.
