I've been hearing a lot about these bows on here and TG. Seems people really like them. I checked out their website and their bows look really nice. In addition they don't cost an arm and a leg like so many custom bows do these days. I was curious what model bow you like best? Any shoot any of the take down models?

I have the vital. Smooth as silk.

Never had an actual RER bow, but I did have a pair of Bear #2 limbs made for me by Kevin TerMaat before he sold the company. Excellent product, even better customer service.

I spoke to Sue before they sold to the Floyd brothers and missed out on a chance to get one of the last "Kevin-made" RER's before they passed it on...mad at myself for not jumping on the opportunity, but I've heard some decent things about the new guys...maybe I should be that "give the new dudes a shot" type of person, in line with my root for the underdog mentality.

God and Christ Bless

60" Arroyo. Wish I had that one back;-)

I have had a few all great bows. I love my XR and my Arroyo and had a Retro but sold it nice not into that style bow much. Quality is good and as u say a fair price. Kevin worked with the current for a long time and still consults.

I have a CXR that is stunning with recurve and longbow limbs I am thinking of selling only because I bought as a back up bow but never have used it. Ithank was made by Kevin.

I really liked their matte finish. Not sure what they use, but durable and sharp looking without glare at all.

My confession:

Having written three books on vintage bows, and having owned or had hands on time with hundreds of bows, I can't collect. Not in my nature, I kept only three classics.

But when I wanted a longbow, Kevin made me a deal on a Vortex II. When he sold out, there was a 56" CXR lefty remaining. Kevin did some tweaks on it for me and made me a deal I couldn't pass up.

The Vortex has become my go-to 3D bow and the CXR my first choice hunter.

Can someone explain the difference in the various take down models? The website is pretty minimal and doesn't offer much other than riser length. I like the looks of the CXR but what is the CLX?

Thanks

I have had several RER's, still have a nice one. 62" Arroyo Static tip recurve 43# @ 28", great shooting bow and pretty also.

My LXR is the nicest bow that I own...and that is the basis for understanding the letter naming system...L is longbow, R is recurve...so an LX is 3 piece longbow, XR is 3 piece static tip, and LXR is riser with both sets of limbs...the C (compact) simply means a shorter riser, 13 inches rather than 15 as I recall

Dave, how would you compare your RER to the Robertson you've had?

From: ProAlpine

I ask because I'm looking at Raven Styk as well - it sure looks nice and I love ther Robertson grip!

I have 3 RER BOWS. 2 are Arroyo's and one is a Vital. I bought both used and they are 48 and 49 @28. My grandson shoots one of these now. I also have a custom Vital that Kevin made for me right before he quit being a bowyer. I shoot both well. went to Canada on bearquest 6 and made a complete pass through with the Arroyo that had a simmons broadhead on a goldtip arrow. Amazingly great shooting bows esp if smoothness is one of your criteria for buying a bow. Arroyo is esp great for quick instinctive shots.

I have a Vortex and Vortex II. Both are 62" and 52# & 53# respectively. Like them both. They were my first experience with some thing other than a recurve. Never chrono. either, but seemed pretty quick. Workmanship and finish are excellent.

I really like my retro - it is one bow I will never pass on. Also had a XR for a couple of years and sold it. Kind of wish I still had it!

This one.

"Little River" 56" 53#@28"

It's not the best all around bow I have, but for a short bow, it is hard to beat out to 30 yards and is light and easy to handle.

Same bow as above just a year later and not too far from where I took the above picture. My Nov. 2017 bow kill while sitting in my Huntmore 360 chair behind a root ball of a blow down.

I don’t even know what the model actually is, but I got this one on a trade with Firewater, and couldn’t be happier. I’ve been shooting this bow at 65 yards with arrows that are really a bit too stiff, but when I do my part I am still grouping about the same width as the brace height, and at 65 yards that is Not Too Shabby.

I get plenty of compliments on it, too!

One of See's Arroyos was one I sold him years ago. It was a beauty, all Cocobolo with stunning Cocobolo verneers. As an afterthought I wish I would have kept it and pursued a weight reduction on it. If I remember correctly he took his first bear with it. Pretty cool stuff.

Kevin told me he built just that one and would never do another. He said getting the right clear glass over the dark Cocobolo made for an extremely difficult build. It was absolutely gorgeous.
