Well, the USPS has really done a job on two bows I've had shipped to me in as many months. They broke the tip off an old Pinto and they must've crushed the last box containing an old style Ben Pearson Javelina. Now, the delamination is on the back of the upper limb near the shelf. Me thinks it's fixable since it's not at a point on the bow that really flexes- but I could be wrong. Anyways, was wondering what the alternative to Loctite 420 is since that stuff seems to have doubled in price and is a pain to order.
It has separated about 3.25-3.5 inches. this pic is with just a little bit of pressure on the upper limb pushing on the belly. THANKS IN ADVANCE for any advice, insight, or opinions.

H.P. First off the guy that shipped that bow in a USPS Tri-box is a moron!! If it was shipped insured I would file a claim.
I've fixed bows worse than that with Loc-tite 420. Using two blocks of wood shaped like the face and belly, saturate the separation with loc-tite and clamp firmly, allow to set at least 3-4 days. Place in a fairly humid environment, as loc-tite sets up from ambient moister. Bob

...and forgot to add that the glass is fully intact and there isn't any horizontal cracks/splits. H

Thanks, figured that would do the trick. Now the next trick is to figure out where to order some L-420. Used to be able to get that stuff at Wal-Mart. Oh, and the guy that shipped it didn't give me after I showed him the condition of the box and the three wadded up bunches of newspaper that he used to ship the bow I'd been waiting for like a kid on Christmas Eve. He made it right. I even offered to send the bow back. He told me to keep it, and refunded my money. Guess the refund will go into some L-420. Any place cheaper to order it that you'd recommend? Been checking on line. Seems to all be about the same price- also appears to be on back order.
Anyways, thanks for confirming what I thought could be done. I love shooting the "old" stuff...and keeping it shooting.

This is from the Loctite 420 safety data sheet: Hazardous components: Ethyl cyanoacrylate
However, the % of that active component is what determines strength vs. store bought super glues.
Loctite 420 is the same as Super Glue! you can find 10 packs of mini "super glues" in any Walmart or K mart auto section .. $3 i believe... it is generic but chemically speaking...same stuff. why pay $20 for a small 2 oz bottle of Loctite 420..that is retarded.
we say loctite 420 cause it sounds special..that is BS.. Wink

Yes, the guy that shipped it agreed. Of course he doesn't ship a bunch of bows either, just happened to get to chatting with this guy on a bass guitar forum of all places. He said he had an "old bow in my closet I've had for years". Anyways, he made things right in the end. Now I just have to fix it. Might just go with a good quality super glue and save the thinner 420 for fixing any small splits I notice in my other bows. I don't think I shoot a bow that's younger than 40 years old. Love shooting the "vintage" stuff at the range and at the local target/3D shoots. I get a lot of questions about them. But with age, comes "issues" so I'm just happy I can probably get this girl repaired and then do a little cosmetic make over. She'll look good as "old" in no time. =})

...and just for fun, here's the one that arrived last month. Vintage Pinto. AMO 66, so planning on knocking an inch off both ends and reworking the tips. She won't be "right", but I think I can get her shooting again.
I've had a bad run with people sending me bows. Currently, one got shipped 3-day Priority and has yet to arrive. It's been all over the dang place according to the tracking number, but it finally made it's way to Texas on Saturday. Can' wait to see how this one looks after being banged around since the 13th. The UP side is the person that shipped it is a bow maker and knows how to package his bows. However, USPS has never ceased to amaze me....
