Thanks, guys! Craig, do you shoot with either hand? Noticed your great looking Beavertails on opposing sides. Anybody using the natural tanned tail color of a tan/orange? If so, I would appreciate seeing it as well. Newt

Monkeyball, I like that ladder and seat! The grip doesn't look bad either!

Is that a Whip underneath?

Well, I gripped her with an un-tanned beaver-tail like I thought I would. It feels great and is rock solid. Came out pretty nice I think. Quite a bit tougher to do than a regular leather grip, but worth the effort. newt

Sorry - I meant a un- dyed beavertail. This one was vegitable tanned. My bad. Newt

Those look great.

Got some awhile back, just never put it on a bow.

Caughtandhobble, got mine at NALS from Cari-bow.

Google "Sheridan Beaver Tails" or "tanned Beavertails for sale" and click on Sheridan Leather Beavertails. I got the extra large size which was about $30. They come thick and stiff on one end and thinner and pliable on the other. I had to use a rough cut file to thin the leather on the thick side so that I had enough pliable tail to work with. Cut to approximate size using other material for pattern. Soak in warm water with a little dish soap for 10 min, then pat dry and place on grip that is protected with Saran Wrap . Pull into place with pieces of stretch band and ty off so the grip can start drying in place. Leave overnight till tail is 70 percent dry or so and remove grip to finish drying into shape of wood grip. After its dry completely, slip over grip and trim to exact seam lines touching each other all the way along stitch seam. Then punch in stitch holes and stitch her up. Newt

Those look Fantastic!

Are there any pro's/cons to the direction of the scale pattern (horizontal vs. vertical)?

I like the looks of both, but I'm leaning towards the horizontal direction a tiny but more.

THANKS FOR THE THREAD AND THE PICS!!!

Bob, way to go pal. Your beavertail grip looks great. What did you do to get the color you have in it? Newt

From: Bob N Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 26-Nov-15

Newt, it was a color option on the site I ordered it from... I believe the color was mahogany, the vendors name was Abe

From: Buzz
Date: 27-Nov-15

Newt, thats Abe Penner.

Those look great. Are they pretty tough in terms of not tearing when stitching?

From: Bob N Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 27-Nov-15

Gaur, you have to be mindful of not putting too much tension on the lacing. One thing to note is the beavertail skin doesn't stretch much. Abe gives good instructions. Bob

Riverwolf, here is what a beavertail grip looks like on a Montana. Feels so much better than the factory grip. Bob
