Working on a build along for another ILF riser and dropped my damn calipers on the floor. I picked it up and its shot this time. Skipping teeth won't hold a zero. Have been building bows with this tool since 1988. Almost like I lost my best friend!

Yeah I know its hunting season and I have enjoyed reading y'all's harvest and the one that got away!

Y'all take care and be safe, Old

Maybe elkherder but I ain't got a clue on how to do it. I have a pair of digitals that I used to finish my project for today.

But it was kind a like taking a bath with your socks on. Done the job but just was not the same thing. If you know what mean! LOL

This picture won't mean much till I do the build along but I used it to make a dado joint

Sorry for the loss of your old "friend". On the upside, you have an excuse to get a shiny new tool!

A good set of dial calipers is a mighty tool in knowing hands...and the brain that's doing the figuring. Digital readout just ain't the same.

Can't see what brand it is. But you may be able to re-zero it. Some have a small flat pin you can put in the top of the dial when you back it out and hold at zero. put pin in and close jaws. Works with Mitutoyo

Hope you can have it repaired. Sentimental value is priceless.

Thanks fellows, it has served me well over the years I'll put it up with some of my Dads stuff.

Gun not sure what brand it is for that matter can't remember where I got it. I use Mitutoyo on my day job and measure stuff in microns. Piece of paper is 102 microns. LOL

The digitals finished my project quite well and I will miss not being able to use the old one. Will get another manual one FN digital ones drive me nuts.

Y'all be safe out there hunting, Old

Todd, I spent 30 years as a machinist and managed to drop my calipers a few times. Unless you have some visual damage they can be taken apart, repaired and put back together. I have done it several times. If it's just skipping that can be fixed too. Give it a try before you revert to the cheater calipers. I never did like the digitals while I was working and still have my linear calipers that I use when I'm working on a knife. Give fixing them a try. Lance.

like knife guy says^^^^its likely repairable--they are no good to you in they're present condition--worth a try!!

Ditto above, sorry.

I still use my Mitutoyo vernier caliper that I bought when I started in a machine shop 45 years ago. Have dropped them maybe a half dozen times in that span and the only damage was a slight ding to the very tip of an inside jaw.

Everybody was hot for the dial calipers when I bought my verniers. Never been sorry.

Love a good dial caliper, almost as much as a good scale. Stepdad was a machinist and insisted I measure nuts to go on bolts whenever we were working on something with the calipers. I never knew why till I realized none of the other kids really understood fractions, decimals or measurement. Truthfully he was probably just trying to slow me down, had a heck of a lot of benifits though.

He is also the one that put a bow in my hand.

Yep sentiment is worth a lot.

Ive learned log ago not to get too attached to things. I'm too clumsy to be that way.

Just. like me .I am an old fool with my attachment to an old tool that served me for many a year.I dropped my English Record adjustable throat block plane one too many times and the blade adjuster broke.I did silver solder it but it just breaks again.35 years making arrows by hand and on its 3 rd blade I just could not ditch it or replace it.It still works , just harder to do fine adjustment.Just recently made 200 odd footed shafts with it.Hope your calipers can be fixed or you find a suitable replacement.I sorry for your loss OSR

My baby and some of the shafts it helps me make
