I recently had the chance to buy a nicely refinished Super Kodiak lefty...I put a string on it that Cameron aka Rooty made for me some time ago...in our conversation earlier today we sorted out that as the only B50 string he ever made...the string has braided loops and is a 12 strand...now I am the last one to say that bow would not work fine with a low stretch string but the fact is sometimes there are performance issues that do not have anything to do with arrow speed...I have a half dozen 2117 Super Slams and I am always looking for a bow that will shoot those well...and now I have another one as that bow with that "old school" string bareshafts them perfectly

A 67.5 Black Beauty with an old school string is a work of art.

I took a couple of pictures of it this morning but I just do not have the ability to get those pictures posted right now...one would think I would learn one day to keep the instructions where I can find them, or at least a camera I know how to operate...the good news is that once I get this camera sorted out I can post some video of me actually shooting the bow...I kind of bought the bow for its collector appeal but the truth is its real appeal comes from shooting it

Nice bow, congrats guy. When those came out I was about 14 and had been shooting/hunting over a year but my parents couldn't see the cost of one so I used to look at the pictures of them and spend hours daydreaming. Again congrats and enjoy!

Got a flemish twist one for my '70 SK, just never put it on.

Shoots great with the string it came with.

Hmmmm.

And the coin side...this bow was very nicely refinished

As things happen around my place the string I referred to has found a temporary new home on a close relative...I was not all that interested in the other Super Kodiak I have until I realized it is likely a 1970...hmmm...so just pick up a 1968 and a 1969 and I will have the first four years of Super Kodiaks...it truly is an addiction

Very nice bow!

Tough to tell in the pictures but Rooty told me that is a 12 strand string, 3 bundle since that is the only way to make braided loops...he also told me the reason the serving is long is to cover up the counter braid...and yes the red glass bow beside the Super Kodiak in the pic above is a 1961 Wilson Brothers Black Widow...Rooty is not only a good stringmaker but a tremendous enabler of my collecting addiction

And one last pic where hopefully it is a little easier to see the braid

Okay so I am never going to win any awards for photography or keeping a neat work bench...hope you can get the idea from the other pics

Good work on those strings, Dave. That 67.5 really is a beauty.

When the Super Kodiak's came out in 67 I was working part time in an archery shop and ordered two lefty's for myself, a 70# and a 55#. They were both all black in early 67.

A short time after I got the bow the 55# one broke. I called the factory to see what they had in stock for a replacement. They had a 64" 50#@ 28 so I said I'd take it. When it came it had Rosewood caps which is what they did on the 67 1/2. Your bow looks to be all black, wouldn't that make it a 67?

I still have both of my Super K's

I really like that black bow. I was in Nam when bow was brought out otherwise I would have one from that time. I like the new ones but wish they had left off the Rosewood caps. That is a nice refinish job, who may I ask did it?

A friend gave me a 67.5 all black with white tip over lays and it has 9 holes drilled in it. Not sure what that is all about. he also took a rasp to the handle and shelf. Other than all that it is a nice bow. It is a 60#er so I will trade it off to someone that is handier than me at refinishing bows.

I wish Al Reader was still with us, he knew more about Bear bows than Fred himself

I knew everything at one time but forgot most of it. 8>)

Yes Dave that's a beauty. I can simpathize with forgetting most. I used to have a 56 inch chest but since I have aged it settled and dropped anchor.LOL

That's sexy, not you Dave the bow.LOL
