Can any of you Bear Grayling era gurus narrow done the manufacture date of a Bear Tigercat, 56",serial #TGO 1285, 50/55#. Has Glass Powered logo on upper limb, Grayling logo on lower limb. Black glass. Looks like between 1964-1978. Any way to narrow it down?

As always pics would help. My notes are conflicted for your bow. Black glass is supposed to be '68, but your serial number doesn't indicate '68 and a '68 is 62".

'78 is the only year for 56" but it is supposed to be grey glass.

Per Al Reader's list the 56" Tigercats 1977-78.

Dan, I've owned a few of the 56" Tigercats but no longer have one. I believe they all had black glass.

I do not know how to post pictures from my I phone or I would be happy to add them. Thx for the replies and help.

Jack, I only have chart that I was given years ago ('98) from an old excel sheet made by a collector whose name I can't pull out of my head. Cliff Amy? Unless I had one in my hands I'm just going off the sheet.

I wish I had the Excel file instead of a printed copy. then Icould edit /add some notes.

fredbear-online.com "bow identifier" section puts a 56" Tigercat in 77-78. It also says "random dark glass" for the limbs and "Tundra grey" for the handle.

1978 Bear catalog

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 13-Oct-15

They came out in late 76 as 77 models (the first ones). The bow was also made as the Panther for K-Mart...same bow, same time period. I've never seen anything but black glass in the 56" model. Local archers called it the poor man's Kodiak. 8^). They are very good shooting bows but still aren't looked upon as a quality Bear model. Folks need to shoot them and see for themselves.

Benzy, the handle is a grayish color. I thank everyone for their input.

I checked my catalogs and it's like George D. Stout said. The Tigercat is in the 1977 and 1978 catalogs. I checked from 1972 to 1976 and the Tigercat wasn't in them catalogs.

Looks in good shape.

Some rub marks on both limbs, belly side from being stored laying flat, but other than that in very nice shape. Little if any usage marks, Not bad for a gift. Will make a string for it and see how it shoots.

I think you will like shooting it. I have the K Mart version and it shoots a lot like my Grizzly. Lance.
