A friend of mine picked up a really nice Super Kodiak and got a hell of a deal. He bought the bow for 40.00! It is in very good condition. He plans to hunt with it some this fall. It is 60 inch 45 @ 28. And shoots very good. I think it was made in the 70's. I would like some of you to let me know what year it was made. The serial number on the bow is KZ4719. Thanks....

Serial number isn't always enough. What color is the stripe? What color are the overlays? Does it have a stabilizer bushing?

A photo would be great.

KZ4719 is a 1970 model. It is one of my absolute favorites! Heck'uv'a deal!!!

I stand corrected.

Thanks CD.

How do you figure that CD? The serial number is irrelevant after 1969. Do you actually have a list of all the bows made after 1969 and their representive ser. Nos.? Only person I knew with that was Frank Scott! The K is super Kodiak.. the z is 60" bow. The rest of the number tells you nothing! Unless of course you have Franks long lost records!

....regroup.. Actually the K prefix is used on ALL Kodiak model names from 1970 on. ie Super Kodiak, Kodiak Magnum,Kodiak Hunter....

All bear bows starting 1970 start with a K - or at least every 1970-1972 Grizzly I have owned did and I have had several

You need to show a photo, or describe the overlays...coin or medallion and color. The photo would narrow it down.

For Super Kodiaks, serial #'s are ever increasing after 1969... haven't seen one outside of that yet.

Show a pic... I will almost guarantee it will be a 1970.

In 1970 almost 10000 Super Kodiaks were manufactured, so the 1970's serial #'s will go up to around KZ10000. They may or may not have the stabilizer insert.

The actual characteristics (coin, silkscreen, color) will confirm the year.

Anyone with a 60" 1970 Super Kodiak.... check the serial #... bet I'm right. :)

Excellent idea CD! Bet on it. I predict that the know-it-alls on here would calm down a little if they lost a Benjamin or two.

CD is somewhat close on how many 1970 super Kodiaks were made that year. I do have that list from frank scott and a few others. and I will bet it is a 1970 super k too.

The coin Medallion.

Im thinking its a 1971 model and one heck of a shooter!

From: Buzz
Date: 05-Oct-15

The bushing in it says '71.

My '70 has none.

From: CD
Date: 05-Oct-15

I don't have my spreadsheet with me at work... but I'm pretty sure that is an early 72 before they transitioned to the raised coin later in the year. The location of the upper silk screen (on the belly or back) should tell you for sure if it is a '71. Which side is it on?

Bob ...early 72 is the same except for the placement of the top silkscreen. Mid 72 they went to the raised "button medalion" in leu of the flush coin. Grizzlys from 70 on are KR

Silkscreen on back of top limb with bushing.....'71. Silkscreen on belly of top limb with bushing..'72.

That is one heck of a deal your friend got for that bow!
