Hey Homey - have you had your own honeymoon yet? I saw a bunch of deer in the woods tonight. Somehow managed to use up my antlerless tag on the smallest one.

Date: 04-Oct-15

Nope zonic, no honeymoon yet looking at going next summer, congrats on the doe!

I see that 5C sold all of their doe tags this year as well....70,000 of them. Good shooting Dale, that's some good protein for this winter. Is that one of your home made bows?

From: Dale in Pa.
Date: 04-Oct-15

Tags were gone pretty quickly this year George. Last year it took almost till rifle season to sell out,but last year I think there were 95,000 available.

I've been fooling around with recurves lately. That's an RER Retro in the pic that I recently picked up here on the classifieds.

Wife asked if I was going to hunt today in this nasty weather. I said yep! I plan to be in my couch stand in front of the TV looking out for a giant buck to cross the back deck.

Realy slow day on stand. Just a few critters came by late. :)

Blessings to all this season in PA. Be safe.

I can say "I did" for an hour when I got home from work. Not a nice day for sure.

At least MD is close enough for me I can hunt Sundays. Only saw a fox today so far...

Not a big rack, but a trophy for me. Only deer I've seen in the woods behind my place this season. 6 points - good enough. I'm done deer hunting just in time to start a new job. Got this guy at 15 yards quartering away from me last night as darkness fell. 47# Wing Gull I bought for $100 a couple months ago. Surewood arrows I built w/ Dale in PA. feathers and 145gn Ace Standard. Arrow entered behind scapula, took out a lung and protruded out neck w/ fletching deep inside deer. Ran about 75yrds. Wife and I recovered him this morning.

Great shot and a fine trophy in my book!

Best of luck with the new Job too!

Yup cool little critter split brow. Trying to get set to get out myself. From still being hurt its be rough this past year from that car accident. Mt critters are their too just everything hurts still when the cold came in it got a little worse again with pain and stiffness. Not sure what I will do yet this season Pa. or NJ. In the next couple weeks got to get ready it will really be time they start searching for love. Rain has had me all flooded out behind my house that's hindering me too. It subsided today a lot already.

Good luck guys. That's a cool picture Tom looks like you have a hot bear spot with all the Bear pictures we get to see.

Congrats everyone, great photos too.

Took my 15 year old son out last night and he had three doe approach, but they were a bit out of range. We hit it again this morning for a few hours and didn't encounter any deer. When I hunt with him my bow usually stays at home, which really doesn't bother me a bit. When the weather becomes a bit cooler, I'ma take a few days and go down to Bedford and hopefully hunt with ol' George D' again in some spectacular mountain scenery. Not sure what it is about having a hunting son, but I just don't have the overwhelming drive to kill a deer anymore. Guess it's all about someone else's time now.

Best of luck, ya'll.....

Saw first deers of the season while hunting. A small yearling too far for my skills. Also two spikes "clacking" their antlers together for several minutes just twenty yards away.

Been bow hunting almost 45 years; these simple sighting are still a thrill. Blessings and safety to all.

Shot this one this morning at 20 yards. String hit my arm and i hit him in the neck. Think I hit a major vein or artery. He fell and pushed the arrow back through his chest. He was broadside when I shot. He made it about 10 yards. Got lucky. Only the third one I've shot with traditional so I am happy! 50# Whisperstik, Easton Legacy 2216's, and a Simmons Interceptor.

Congrats to the above who have taken deer!!

From: Greg D

Tom, What area of the state are you in? I'm in the southeast corner and so far as I know we have none

From: Tom McCool
Date: 19-Oct-15

Hi Greg, I hunt Carbon County near Hickory Run.

One day I saw 4 in 3 hours. Another day I saw 3 together.

Last October I saw a Fisher on the mountain for the first time in my life up there. I did hear Fishers love to eat porkypines; so maybe that's why I'm seeing them too.

Hunting season for the porkys got pretty liberal a few years back so I guess the Game Commission have been seeing a lot too.

From: Greg D

I just came back from Nova Scotia and they seemed to be overrun with them. I don't think we drove anywhere without seeing one on or around the road. Good Luck, Greg

I was out this morning, 6:30AM, 27 degrees but calm, save for the thermals. No deer this morning, although we know of seven bucks in this one area. They are likely hanging close to the does that are hanging close to the still uncut corn fields of my neighbor.

No morning is wasted when you can see the sun come up over the ridge, and such beautiful color. Was an awesome morning.

Great morning to be out!

From: Yewbender
Date: 30-Oct-15

Went out behind house this morning. Just after first light watched doe go thru 60 yrd away. About 10-15 mins later i had a doe coming down trail to my right, while watching her i spotted some movement bach behind her and it was a buck. As they got closer i could see it was a big half rack with 5 points and a nice size deer. He was following her staying about 10-15 yrds away. She was within 10 yrs and the closest he got was 15 yrds, i was unable to get a shot because she was looking my way at me most of the time. She would move to the left, right, then left again and he was doing the same. By now he was 25 yrds away and finialy she walked off with him following. I then seen another doe and a lil spike, he walked 10yrd from stand. It was awsome!

Im going on my 3rd season hunting traditional and waiting for that first shot, i know it will come. I have never felt like this before hunting and if it takes 10 yrs i don't care because things like this morning are just as good as taking a deer.

Got out this am for a hunt at the farm,no deer once again but had a coyote stroll by at 45yds or so,beautiful morning to be out. I wish the temp was a lot cooler but oh well. Going to change it up and hit bald eagle state forest this afternoon. Good luck to everyone!

These high temps are putting a damper on deer movement for sure here in Blair County. Not only is it unseasonable warm today but it's also humid. I think things will begin to change tomorrow. Hopefully the last week will be better......

I filled my buck tag on Thursday at 8am with my wheel bow. Now that I finally have some meat in the freezer I can relax and take out my Bear Grizzly. I've got a spot I hunt where the doe come in right at sunset to feed on crab apples. I found mysel there on Saturday evening. I had the wind in my favor all day but as soon as the sun set, a doe came out to feed and the wind changed! D'oh! Winded and busted. Freshly laundered clothing in scent free soap and I had just showered with scent free soap. Didn't matter, you can't beat their nose. Nonetheless it was a relaxing evening to sit.

What a beautifull morning today! Had a buck at 15-17 yrds but not a legal shooter. It was awsome just watching him take his time walking by. Then i got a call from my buddies dad and went and helped him with a buck he shot.

Got out today and had a great hunt! I had a buck come in and walk past me at day break. Too dark to shoot. Had a crazy looking spike buck come into my scent drag at 1:00pm. Was about 5 yards from the stand. Right at dark had, what I think was the same spike buck come in. Rubbed his face on some limbs rubbed his antlers and proceeded to walk by me. He stopped and stared into the field and another buck came in and the both were posturing. I turned on my flashlight and the one was a half rack 4 pt. they both stood there looking at me then walked up the hill. I threw down my cushion and they trotted a few steps and watched me climb down! They could have cared less that I was shinning a light on them! Crazy hunt! Had a lot of fun! Hopefully I can get a hunt in before the rain tommorow! Good luck to all!

I was able to take my first trad gear deer, after 3 years of passing on them and making a bad shot last year, I needed this to happen to gain confidence in my equipment....now I know if I do my part, the gear will do it's job flawlessly. Thanks to all of the veterans out there that did what they had to do so guys like me could have the freedom to enjoy the great outdoors and all of the healing powers that come from being out in it.
