Overlay popped off.Easy enough fix.New?

From: Slayer
Date: 29-Sep-15

Yes it was pretty new. I think almost two years. I ordered the limbs from 3 rivers. I haven't shot this bow all summer. I have been using my bear takedown lately. The predator was just my back up. I hope I can send the limbs back to get fixed.

Back-up? Dang - I need a $800 back-up bow...

I don't know what the warranty would be, but if it is mot covered, I would think it is a pretty easy fix - just glue and clamp the overlay back on. You can find LOTS of how to info on here, or Google, YouTube, etc..

Just kidding you about the back-up bow comment. I would love to have either one of those bows.

Yeah I might try and glue it. I am blessed to have it as a back up that's for sure. It used to be my main bow until I fell in love with the bear takedown. It is the absolute easiest bow to change limbs on.

You can fix it in 2 minutes and allow 1 hour drying time. It will be as good as new. Dry glue joint it looks like.

What are all the marks running up the glass over the overlay from?

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

I wouldn't bother sending it back. Sand it clean and reglue it. I has nothing to do with the function of the limb, just protection and helps build a teardrop in the string when strung. And it's just an overlay that fell off....not the tip. I was scratching my head till I opened the thread. Easy fix.

If they'll take it send it back-it might extend the warranty.Plus as Pearl Drums mentioned they need to look at those lines near the tip.(if they offer let them its easy to mail a pair of limbs and its a backup so youre good)

From: nomoatwork

I'd try to send it back so they can look at those other lines going up the limb. They appear to go up the limb and continue up the tip. Might be something going on there. I'd want them to look at it and see if something is going on. Failure at full draw can be detrimental to ones health. I would error on the side of caution.

The line running up the limb near the tip are where it was sanded and glued. The lines below where the overlay was glued are unrelated to the overly problem. Unless someone was trying to pry it off. At least that's how it looks to me after having seen dozens or more of things like that.

unless those lines were part of the cause of the pop-off? Doubtful but who knows.

"unless those lines were part of the cause of the pop-off?" Hmmm, that's a thought.

From: buddyb

It is an easy fix but I'd still contact Hunter's Niche and see what they say. As someone said it seems to be a dry glue joint.

Why does the tip overlay on the left look smaller the the surface area on limb on the right?

From: Kodiak
Date: 30-Sep-15

Oh probably because it's lower in the pic.

Cmon man.

From: Sixby
Date: 30-Sep-15

Only two things I can think of with those pics and the lines below the overlay and on the overlay glass itself is someone purposely pried it off., Look at chip near the side of the notch cut. or, bad dry fire. Has someone else had access to your bow?

God bless, Steve

In AR, we'd fix it with duck tape. Would quiet the bow too.

Could the scratches be from the bottom ot the overlay when the tip overlay came off? The string would pull it down that way.

From: Rocket Dog

The guys at Hunter's Niche are great to work with. Send it back and let them look at it. If it is a problem with construction, they would love to know it. I am sure they will make it right, and letting them do it will remove any question about whether the fix is good or not.

String would hold it on wouldn't it?

From: oldbow
Date: 30-Sep-15

I think that they would stand behind that. I would give them a call.

Wow a lot of info. Thanks for all the replies. While shooting the overlay slipped down the string was still strung. I belive the limb had those white scratch marks in them before. I just thought it was something to to with the glass like stress. I got the limbs through 3 rivers. I don't remember if they were in the trading post but I do know that is were I got the riser from. I do want to fix it or get it fixed. I wasn't worried about the little marks on the limb till now!!!

Not a doubt in my mind Predator will fix it for you no charge. Those guys are first class.

Those fine scratches appear to go across surface of limb and the overlay, both upper and lower limb, suggesting something scratching as it slides across both. I'd check your stringer..it may have a molded-in ridge or roughness that is catching when you string the bow and that sliding stringer end may have been catching on the edge of the overlay and essentially pried it loose. I switched from a Carver stringer with a molded plastic cup at one end and a fairly hard wedge of rubber at the other to a home-made one with a leather cup with the parachute cord laced through it so it is soft and molds to the tip to hold it securely, and the sliding end has a much larger wedge of closed cell foam wrapped in leather with a nylon bushing insert to keep the cord from wearing through. It's a lot gentler on my old bows.

I would contact Ron Pittsley, im sure he would fix it,cheaply, or possibly free.

I wouldn't shoot that thing with a catchers mask and a football helmet on. I had a friend have the same thing happen and I replaced a bunch of his teeth after he got his lip and face sewed up in the ER several years ago. Get a new limb.
