For fans of Brandon Stahl and Rose Oak bows, he's got a nifty new 50's style recurve. I don't think it's on the website yet but the new bow can be seen on this thread:

http://tradarchers.com/forum/index.php/topic,1379.0.htm l

Cut and paste, I can never figure out how to post a hot link on this site.

The bow is a real beauty. I still think the late 50's style recurves like the 59 Kodiak are some of the nicest bows ever made.

Very cool - kind of reminds me of an old late 50s Howatt Mamba Hunter (my buddy actually keeps one of those in his office here at work! A great shooting bow). I think I'd order one if it came in the 63" version, but with a 30" draw length it's too much of a roll of the dice to spend $700 or more on a 60" bow and hope it works well with my draw.

I wonder how much the I-beam option is? Been waiting for the bow to get listed on his website...

I have Brandons takedown/bear replica and love it.Hunted with it last night. Got a few chantrell mushrooms. watched a few does come by. Gotta love it.

Brandon said he'd make 63" version if there was enough interest/orders, since he'd have to make new forms. A 63" version would be my preference as well, since my DL is over 31".

No 63" version just saves me $900. {8^)

Anyone who says they can't shoot a Rose oak's I'm sorry I just don't believe. I know that's a very bold statement but that's how highly I think of Brandon's bows and his ability's. Not to mention the beauty they are definitely a step above in the custom arena.

Haven't been made aware of this new model yet would like to see it. I hope to go to PO today to pick up my new Heritage with red glass and double set of limbs Brazil Rosewood and birds eye in the riser. Very classy looking in pictures he sent me we all know don't do customs justice.

I try to get cleaned up and on the wagon and bow sober and here we go again a purty slick bow comes down the lane again and Cat's on it. I will be glad one day when I have used up my 9 lives not sure which one I'm on at this point though?

I had one of Stals 50's style bows a little while back and it was slick think it might have been Brandons grandfather who might have made it but wasn't sure. I was told but forgot and that was very fast.

I'll try to do this from my phone.

Wow dude that's nice but don't think it looks like a Howitt was able to copy and past? I wouldn't mind having one in a 56" inch for the blind? There's some changes that looks like a Bear on this ACE to me but that's what makes it a Rose Oaks. If you want it to look exactly like a copy then? Why get a real one then?

My delite looks like a Super D on steroids, LOL. Unreal bow and with the pierce points it's bad looking and does it shoot great.

The heritage favors a Kodiak but then it has the custom Hot Rod options.

Brandon Hot Rods things if our Rose Oak bows could sound like glass pack mufflers then the arrows would release with sparks and flames coming off them.LOL

These bows are Hot Rods.LOL

Another view.

To me, I see influences from the early Howatt Mamba Hunter, and also from the 56 to 58 Bear Kodiaks, but it doesn't look like a straight-up copy of anything in particular. Maybe Mr. Stahl could chime in here and tell us what classic bow(s) influenced this design?

Florida Lime, if Brandon offers this in 63" I think we'll both be out of some cash and Brandon will be building a couple of leftys!

Well David, I do I have the only LH Stahl Ocelot in 62" to hold me over.

From: goldentrout_one
Date: 23-Sep-15

Beautiful! And, if you go to Brandon's forum, he mentioned that he recently 'burned' several old forms because they were taking up too much room in his shop. Could be the Ocelot will never be revived, the form may no longer exist, wish I had gotten one when I had the chance (and the super wildcat for that matter).

The thing with Rose Oaks is, delayed gratification doesn't work, you can't just wait until you can afford it, because the model you want may be replaced by something else at any time.

From: Florida lime
Date: 23-Sep-15

If I remember correctly, the Companion forms (the longbow sister to the recurve Ocelot) were given to a different bowyer years ago. The Companion and Ocelot risers are identical, but I don't know the particulars. I'm sure Brandon will chime in later.

NOPE SHE DIDN'T ARRIVE TODAY. BOO HO HOPE IT GETS HERE IN 1 PIECE BUT WAIT THERE'S A FEW PIECES SO HOPE AND PRAY IT COMES NO PROBLEMOS. GUESS WHEN ITS HERE ITS HERE.LOL

IT'S LIKE GETTING READY IN THE BACK OF A 55 CHEVY THEN THERE'S A SURPRIZE. NOT TODAY GIVE ME A FEW DAYS.LOL

THAT'S A BETTER PROFILE OF THE BOW SHE IS SWEET.

CAP TAB WAS ON.LOL

Wow!

Thanks for the compliments guys.

I'll try to touch base on some of the questions...
1. The I-beam sight window will be a $30 option. I'll eventually get the Ace added to my site. Don't know when though?
2. The Ace is it's own design, but it was inspired by the '57 Kodiak because when I think of a '50's style recurve, that's the bow that I think of. They just have a simple and elegant appeal to them that I like.

The Ace's limb design is very similar (almost identical) to my current 60" Ultra Delight.

The riser for the Ace was designed by pulling some images of '57 Kodiaks off the internet and using those as a guideline for the design process.
3. I only offer the Ace in 60", but from the feedback I'm getting I probably should have went with 63"...lol

I didn't initially plan on it, but I'll probably have to make a 63" form in the near future.
4. The Companion longbow and the Ocelot recurve did share the same exact riser.

My buddy Daryl at Brooks Bows purchased the Companion form a few years back and he uses it to make his own version (which has a different riser design than my original Companion). Daryl is very creative and he likes to do unique things with his bow designs.

I did keep the 62" Ocelot recurve form, which I might use at some point in the future.

Ideally I would like to make a few minor changes to the grip and shelf area if I bring it back.

I didn't want to sell any of my other old bow forms (Puma Hunter, King Panther, Super Wildcat, and various TD limb forms), so they were sacrificed (by fire) to the archery gods to clear up some space in my workshop.

It was an awesome fire! :^)
I also have one other 60" recurve form for a model that I haven't made yet (but would like to in the future).

It's what I would consider to be a late '60's style bow (similar in style to something like a Red Wing Hunter or Bear Grizzly) and it's limb design is also identical to my current 60" Ultra Delight. It should be a sweet little bow!

From: rare breed
Date: 24-Sep-15

Mr. Stahl: You're doing what!? For the love of God, man DON'T BURN your old bow forms!! They are all classics. The Bear Limbs and the Wildcat were works of art!! It's like Tesla burning his notebook, Einstein erasing his chalk board, Fred Bear tossing his original drawing of the Takedown out the shop window, Alice Cooper(in 1975)refusing to sleep with Raquel Welch... Had I had the funds, I would have purchased your beautiful bows in abundance. And, don't even get me started on what would've happened with Raquel... Shoot Straight, rare breed

Thanks for the sentiment, but they weren't anything magical or special. Certainly not on par with any of the stuff you mentioned.

I didn't have any intentions to use them again, and I didn't want to sell them (for my own eccentric and artistic reasons...lol).

To me, they were just LVL's. You can get them at any local lumber yard for about $60.

The only thing different about these LVL's was that they were cut into the shape of bows. :^)

I have CAD files for almost everything I've made after 2008, so if I really really wanted to I could make them again. ;^)

However, I've gained a lot of experience since some of those forms were made, so I'd probably want to make some changes to some of the designs anyways.

After you do the same thing over and over, you start to see little things that you want to do differently. At least I do. It's just part of the process.

BTW, I still have my Bear limb forms. #1's, 2's, and 3's.

The limbs for my Heritage TD are also glued up on the same forms. ;^)

That is a good looking bow, I like the ocelot also. if I ever get to shoot one I may have a hard time keeping my wallet closed..... and my wife happy. By the way, I'd prefer 63" also.

I think that's one sign of a true craftsman Brandon, the constant evolution of your designs and purging of the old. Artists often work the same way, not wanting older or "lesser" work to exist next to current.

From: RymanCat
Date: 24-Sep-15

What about the Bob Cat I have one of those as well as a Puma great bows. Gee don't ever get rid of those forms. Hope my Heritage gets here today like a kid in a candy store waiting for my fix to get here.LOL

Not to take anything away from Steve / sixby either though. I have 2 of his bows now and a 3rd coming thats's magnificent also working on getting that squared away. These guys bows are craftsmen.

I have seen pictures of some beautiful VW bows, but I have not shot or handled any personally. Excellent reputation, and gorgeous work for sure, but no offense to any other bowyers - I do know that Brandon's bows are works of art AND excellent shooters, at a fair price and a decent wait time.

Nice, I would love to take lessons from Brandon. Especially on the tooling and jig setups , the man is a master. I'm just an Oregonian with a chain saw,. We do have this in common though , we love to build bows and especially love designing new ones. I have built probably thirty different models and am continually improving and designing new ones as I learn. Never ending process for me. LOL

God bless, Steve

Nice old Gordon!

I thought it might have been one of my uncle Ray's original Rose Oak Bows before you posted the pic of the Gordon logo. :^)

That Gordon has a little larger riser with a more forward design than the Ace. ;^)

Thanks again for all the compliments guys!

You guys need to stop before you make my head swell. I'm going to have to buy a larger hat pretty soon...lol

And Steve, you don't need any lessons from me. You've done very well for yourself. There are many that speak very highly of your work. ;^)

That's the cool thing about the archery industry in this day and age.

We have a lot of modern bowyers making some very excellent recurves and longbows.

There are all kinds of different flavors to choose from.

If I didn't make my own, I'd have a hard time choosing which one I was going to buy next...lol

Biathlonman Quote:

"Looks a lot like the old Robertson Peregrine, that can't be bad."

No, I don't think that's a bad thing at all.

I've admired Dick's bows for decades, so I take that as quite a compliment. The man is a hell of a craftsman and artist.

Don't quote me, but I think that Dick's Peregrine recurve was inspired by one of the late Jim Emerson's bows (that was modeled after the '57 Kodiak).

I think that says a lot about the '57 Kodiak. It's a very iconic style for a recurve. ;^)

Hey Dan,

I forgot to mention to you that your bow will only look better with age.

The goncolo alves that was used in the riser might look a little anemic now, but it will darken to a richer looking color over time.

That stuff ages like fine wine. ;^)

Brandon...you may as well go ahead and make the 63" form. Trust me, I say that for a REASON. I'll holla. God and Christ Bless

From: Recurve Crafter ™ Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 05-Oct-15

Kent, I'm going to.

I've had a lot of inquiries to build it in 63" and I'm actually scheduled to build at least one by Christmas.

I had a customer that was on the list for a 63" Special Edition Ultra Delight, but after he saw this bow, he decided that he'd rather have an Ace instead. :^)

So for all those who are interested in a 63" Ace, it will be available in the near future. ;^)

Get the 63 out of the way and then do me a 56" blind bow.LOL
