Was wondering if anyone knows whether or not the Royal Hunter was designed after Dan Quillian's Patriot. They look similar and at one time I had a Patriot but sold it because it was on the top side of my draw weight and I could no longer shoot it comfortably over extended sessions.
Lighter weight Patriots are hard to find and I thought possibly Owen might have produced the same or closely assimilated bow in the Hunter series of which I see on a more regular basis.
I've heard that Owen produced the Patriot for Dan and thought possibly that they might be very similar. Also was under the impression that they were very good friends and not competitive with mutual interests in stick bow archery.

Owen Jeffery designed some of the bows for Dan Quillian as well as PSE and a few other bow manufacturers.
I have a Royal Hunter I bought from Mr. Owen around 1991....when I lived about 30 minutes from his original shop on Pepper Street.
keep em sharp,

Owen made the patriot and long hunter for Dan. The long hunter I understand to have been a evolution of the Hoyt champ that was around in the middle 50's

Frank, Owen made both so it is likely he used the best of his design for his own named bow. Also remember Dan had the bow made to his (somewhat) specifications to eke out the most performance. I've shot both of those bows and they shoot differently, so I 'spect there is some subtle differences. The Royal Hunter is one of the all around best shooting bows made in the takedown style.

I appreciate the input. I knew that Owen had made some of Dan's models and heard that Martin may also have.
George, the Patriot was one of the fastest recurve bows I've owned over the years and I'd compare it speed wise with the Ballistic, Tice and Watts, and Dan's Canebrake model.
Speed alone wasn't enough to warrant me hanging on to a bow so they have all went to other homes.
Although I now shoot selfbows the Royal Hunter has always piqued my interest and used prices seem to be fairly reasonable. I thank you for your opinion and may try to find one in the 45-50# range.
