After finding this image of an accomplished traditional archer on the cover of my daughter's book, I realized I have been using the wrong form this whole time. I should be drawing the bow with the string on the OUTSIDE of my bow arm (left arm since I am a right hand shooter). I don't know yet what my anchor point will be -- possibly the top of my left shoulder. Of course, I will have to drop the draw weight considerably due to the mechanical disadvantage.

I hope this information is helpful for all those of you who have been shooting incorrectly also. Let me know how it works for you.

Sadly people who accept pictures like that as a representation of reality are probably anti hunters as well...truth and reason are not a part of their thinking and understanding...tis a strange and wonderful world we live in

Yah, and when I bought the ACME rocket booster and strapped it to my back wearing roller skates, that didn't work too well either.

The rocket booster worked just fine for me... I just didn't think ahead to the braking system. Yes, I replaced the neighbors Garage door, and the wife sold the rocket on E-Bay.

As for the bow string on the outside of the arm... I thought that was how it was supposed to be, that IS how ALL the comics show it... although I have not mastered that form yet.

Only archers will notice that. The movie Brave got a skibillion kids into traditional archery, and I suspect most learned how to shoot the bow correctly. It is what it is, that's all, and it helped our sport immensely.

Bruce, I hope its my imagination and that is not a round wheel on the end of the upper limb in your "form" diagram.

Mangonboat,

Disney is trying to appeal to ALL archers -- the traditional, modern (compound,) and the double-jointed.

Isn't this the reason the Armgard is worn in a manner to protect the top of the forearm? Some idiot told me it is supposed to cover the inside/bottom. I just walked away from him shaking my head. . . Do these people not watch these documentaries? My kids love this one.

I seriously doubt that 1 in 20 people accept a rendering such as that as having anything to do with reality at all.

Ah yes, the new Disney. Things haven't been the same since Walt departed.

Hunger Games and Brave have done a lot to get young ladies into archery, I was at Dick's just before, and after Christmas. Little recurves, arrows and targets were flying off the shelves. These young novices could be future bowhunters, or Olympic team archers. Best part is, it's recurves they're seeing on the screens, good news for our sport.

The OP depiction is goofy for sure.

So how many of y'all actually watched the movie Brave?

Not a bad flick. As an archer, I found it refreshing... and for an animation, I think they did a pretty dang good job of "getting it right" as far as archery and form goes. Heck, even the arrow paradox was cool to see! So I don't think the artist of this particular rendition had the same archery consultant team.

Biggest issue I have with the Brave movie is that my kid now wants to shoot all targets while walking or moving somehow... Oh well! Lol!

You guys do realize its a cartoon. OK take a deep breath hunting season is just around the corner.

Its Disney what do you expect? The old Bambi bit didn't do the deer hunting cause any favours either.Good way to brainwash lids into being anti hunters too. OSR

As a youngster, Bambi was the first hunting film I ever watched.

The girl in Brave had good form! Not like the picture up there.

Lars Anderson could have learned something from her :)

Yep....when you do as much for archery as these movies have done, then you can chirp about a silly art drawing.

I suppose if archery is all you do or think about in life then you will take exception with animation and other fairy tales. Good God some of you guys need lives.

I took it as a joke. Some people have no sense of humor.
