I see new 2015 Damon Howatt recurves and longbows for sale. Who makes these bows for Martin Archery now and where are they made? I thought the Damon Howatt plant was closed when Martin sold and reorganized.

Martin was about to go under and sell everything through auction, but a company called Diversis bought it a couple years ago. CEO Rich Weatherford kept 6 previous employees and brought on another 25 workers.

I cannot say for sure about quality, but most likely the bows are coming out alright since negative reports are not hitting the internet.

I was thinking about a new Savannah Stealth to go with my other Savannahs. I assume the Savannah design hasn't changed.

I wonder if the staff size of 31 is the entire Martin operation, compounds and traditional? I thought they used to have a whole separate plant for Damon Howatt.

don't know whats going on there now. as far as i know they only kept two people from the original howatt crew. nobody there now that knows how we made lams, and that has changed to simple lams that changed the way the bows perform.

Thanks, Larry. So, the lam thickness & tapers might not be the same. Guess I'll wait for some LW reviews and pics of the 2015 Savannah. They're producing the 2015 Mamba, too.

Not trying to be a brand name basher but my experience with the new Martins was not good. I bought a Savannah Stealth online and was very disappointed with it when I received it. The limbs were not symmetrical and the fit and finish was poor, definitely not on par with the price. I shot it a few times before returning it and it had a poorer cast than my Bear Montana that was the same poundage. Maybe not a lot of negative reports out there on the new products, but after my experience I would only purchase a Martin if it were on older model.

Yeah, if you mess with the limb profile & lamination tapers and thicknesses, it would be a whole different bow, even if they looked the same at first glance.

Given the loss if experience that came with the changeover, and even before, I would not buy one ever. it is, sadly, the end of an era. A name does not make a bow. A bowyer does with the knowledge and skills learned and shared by a group of talented individuals in a collective effort.
