I've been through my share of old recurves lately. The last 3 BP Cougars I've gotten have all had flaking finishes. I don't know if I have the skills/products to do a pro refinish job myself - so I avoid that - as well as buying refinished bows in general. My go-to fix lately has been to give the wood a coat and polish with Watco Satin Finishing Wax in an attempt to slow the flaking and provide some sort of barrier against moisture. My question (other than should I not do that) is this:
Is it good, bad or ok to wax the glass too? Up until now I've avoided getting it on the glass because I don't know if there could be any negative effect to using wood finishing wax made for oil finished wood surfaces on fiberglass. But it seems that it could act as a sealer against moisture to the fine vertical stress cracks occasionally found in the old glass, as well as give the dull glass a nice, polished look.
Looking forward to hearing opinions from the experts.
