Hey guys and gals,
I just picked up a 58 inch Bear Grizzly that is marked 52 inches...
Is this rare? Does anyone else have one?
The bow shoots fine and is in good condition...

First question (and I have to ask) did you measure it?
I don't think I've seen one come from the factory with the length mis marked.

I aligned it with a know 58" grizzly and it aligned perfectly... What is the best way to measure it? I can do that in the AM.

Back when that bow was made Bear was pumping out over 1,000 bows a day. They were hand lettered not stamped and I'm sure that a few were marked wrong do to human error.

It's a simple miss-mark. You don't see them very often but they do show up. As mentioned, when you are turning out thousands of bows every week, there's a good chance you will have an error now and then. Now if it was an actual 52" AMO Grizzly, then you would have something. 8^)

Neat find. Unfortunately there was no autocorrect feature in the '70's, so they just stayed marked incorrectly. Thank goodness for autocorrect! Pants tree farm!

an odd duck for sure but not so rare I've seen a few different models mismarked over the years with length or draw weight.Measure the bow from noc to noc on the belly side you will want to fallow the curves as much as possible. One of those cloth type tape measures works great bd

Okay gents! I measured the bow it does measure out to 58". Now the question is the draw weight... Could the person at Bear archery mismatched the draw weight as well? My 50# Super MAG draws much easier then this bow. Did they make the Grizzlies in 55-60# range? The riser is maked 45X. Could this have been a 55X? What's the easiest way at home to measure the draw weight with minimal supplies?
Thanks
LS

i agree it is marked wrong . so with all the fussing and b%%%%%%ing about gainsville we see there was a screw up in grayling .well i had one marked 50 lb on the handle and 60 under the hair plate . it was 60 i had george way it . i sent it back to three rivers they sent me another one. i would agree they are few and far between .

I bought a cheap luggage scale and it works great as a bow scale. Rich pyle

Usually Bear X marked weights are a pound or two difference than written. The true weight would be marked on the shelf under the rest/strike plate. All archery shops and most clubs should have a scale if there are any near you.

As others have said, with all the bows being hand lettered every day by a human,it only stands to reason that a few may have been mismarked.I have a 52" 1963 Kodiak Magnum that is marked 60".The bow measures 52" as it should.I figured maybe this bow got marked right after lunch break and maybe a couple of barley pops.LOL!

I think the handle reads 326 of 76.
