Just in the side yard and after a long day. My 50 yard was disappointing but I haven't shot 90 arrows in such a short time for a good while. Anyway it was:
60 yards.....30 hits.....164 points
50 yards.....30 hits.....172 points
40 yards.....30 hits.....232 points
Total.....568. I was hoping to top 600 but I'll keep working on it. Taking tomorrow off for muscles to recover.
Golden Eagle recurve, 68", 43#, 1816 arrows with 4" feathers and 100 grain tips...28". Using a stick on Hoyt rest.

George, just curious. I recall going to a shoot (a long time ago) at a football field where you went down the sideline and shot various distances starting at 20yd and working to the middle of the field was a 50 yd shot then working your way back down again to 20yd. What was that called? Each end was 5 arrows (I believe but may not be remembering correctly).....and if I recall the faces were NFAA field. Regards

That sounds fun going to have to look up the rules and do some research. Next time I get to the range I will give it a try.

122 cm (48") 5 color FITA target. 30 arrows at 60 yards, 30 at 50 yards, and 30 at 40 yards. Starting at the longest distance. The American Rounds is scored by colors from center out..Gold..9, Red..7, Blue..5, Black..3, and White..1.
You use the same target to score a 900 Rounds but it's scored by circles. Gold is..10 and 9, Red..8 and 7, Blue..6 and 5, Black..4 and 3, and White..2 and 1. Same number of arrows...same distances.

At 60 yards I use the arrow tip on top of the red above the gold. 50 and 40 are focus and rely on my form that I've been working on for half a century. 8^) I'm aware of the arrow in my periphery but I don't look at it. It works well when I do my part.

90 arrows in relatively quick succession while focusing on hold- over is a work out for anybody. Great undertaking !

The Michigan Longbow Association still shoots some American Round targets at the GLLI, it will test your skill.

Big dog, I think what you are talking about is called the "V" round. I did that a couple times at the Bluegrass State Games (KY)

Good job George. Been awhile since I shot a American round. As you probably remember , "back in the day" the uniform of the day was all white worn by the adults who shot that round. You also may remember Karl Palmatier who ran most of the National American round shoots. He not only wore all white but he wore the white Navy cap (with the sides pulled down). That was Karl's trade mark.
That old critter next to Ron was a canon cocker in the Marines in Korea. Tough old bird.

That's a great photo Ron. I kept it to file to make myself a copy for my little den, hope that's okay.
Jon, yes I never met Karl but I remember him well from all the articles and his face in Archery Magazine. I remember the tension between him and John Yount, and John quitting the secretary job when Karl was voted in as president. Around Pa., our face of the NAA was Clayton (Clayt) Shenk. He was involved for decades and was a huge supporter for the sport. Lots of names from the past that go unknown by archers today and that's a shame.

I've been shooting the 900 round a bit this summer. It's quickly becoming one of my favorite rounds to shoot. It's nice getting dialed in and pounding the gold.

George, I don't know why but I keep track of my scores on the NFAA field and such. I shot the American Round four times in 1999 and my scores were: 558, 492, 586, and 566. All but the last score had 2 misses. I know I shot wood arrows but I wish I had recorded which bow I used. I remember it was a lot of fun and I may have to dig the old round straw target back out.

George- I think that was great shooting! Especially so considering you hadn't shot it for so long.
I put out a "youth" target to start practicing on. It's only about 32" or so though. I was worried it might not stop my arrows, but it stopped them with ease. Problem is, I couldn't pull them out! I had to lay the target flat on the ground, stand on it and pull, lol! I'm going to just stick with my 300 round targets and bags.

Thanks Joe, I am fussy so I know I can do better.
Hector, you start at the longest distance. Normally there is more than one at a target, sometimes up to four shooters. If you have more than two shooters, the first two shooters will shoot side by side...3 arrows. Then they step back and the next ones on that target shoot 3. Then you step up and shoot your next three, and so on. After each end of 6 arrows, the target is scored. One person calls the score and another records it while the shooter watches his or her arrows pulled and counted. Five ends of 6 arrows for each distance. You can decide on time limits....the NAA has limits on each shooter but it is plenty of time to shoot without being rushed.
So of course it's not just shooting that you need to prep for. You walk to the target and back after each 6 arrows. It's not a big deal though as you tend to get into the shooting and don't realize how much territory you cover on each round. Most of the rules and regs can be found at teamusa.org/

The National Senior Games are being held in the "Twin Cities". The archery venue is less then 10 miles from me, so plan to check it out hopefully. They shoot a 900 round and score rings like you explained George. I see they have a 5 min. time for 6 arrows or 2.5 min. for a three arrow end. Looks like 6 or 3 depends on how many shooters at the time. There is 1 man in the 80-84 age division for recurve and one in the 85-89 bare bow recurve division. They should medal! Was wondering if any of our fellow Leatherwallers were involve in this? The first age group is 50-54. Didn't see any restrictions on recurve weight, but it is 80# for compounds. There are 5 events Compound Fingers--Compound Release-- Barebow Compound--Recurve--Barebow recurve. It's 30 arrows at 60-50-40 and you can only compete in one style--the style that you qualified in during 2014. Didn't mean to steal your thread George, just thought maybe some one would find it interesting. Good shooting George, you left room for improvement!

One question I also have is how many (if any) practice arrows are allowed before the round, and also during the round when you shift from 60 yards down to 50, for example.

Archers are given two practice ends before the start of scoring. There is no additional practice allowed between distance changes.

I was doing much better at 50 today but didn't shoot an entire round. Keeping closer to the center...gold and red area with just a few blue. Supposed to cool down this weekend a bit so will try another 90 arrows then.
