Howdy all I've recently switched from right to left to gain control over TP. From the first shot shooting a left hand bow was great. Put the enjoyment (and accuracy ) back into archery. I'm just wondering how many people have done this and been able to switch back. I know there isn't a magic bullet for TP but after 8 years of drills it can become frustrating. Motty

I switched to left a few years ago. Never went back.

Switched to left from right a few years ago due to elbow problem. Have to shoot with my right closed. After a couple of years tried to go back to right handed but still had the elbow problem so am still shooting left handed and is working out pretty well. Denny Sturgis Sr

Never had any issue with target panic either right or left handed so I continue to shoot both ways on a regular basis...one thing people often neglect is the conditioning benefits of shooting both ways...I doubt I would be able to shoot the draw weight I do if I did not follow that practice...why not continue to shoot right handed blind baling only...you might find your target panic drifts away after a year or two of doing that

I have often wondered how much right handed shooting Fred Bear and Glenn St. Charles did after they switched

I changed from right to left a little over a year ago after injuring my right shoulder. Since I am left eye dominant the accuracy is progressing well but the problem is lack of strength on the left side, which surprised me as I shot pretty heavy weights on my right side. I agree with Camodave in that by pulling from both sides on a regular basis will assure more strength on both sides if needed. I do weights to try to increase my strength which has helped some, but at age 80 its difficult to increase very much. Happy shooting. Joel

Motty: I switched from left to right about two years ago because of the damn panic and also because of chronic pain in the left shoulder. I can shoot right handed, but it feels awkward and unnatural even after two years. To answer your question, I recently dusted off the left hand bow and gave it a try. The shoulder pain is gone, but unfortunately the miserable panic is still right there where I left it.

I prefer left, yet I have to tune and shoot mykids right handed bows, it just takes a second to get my thought clear and relax before the release.

I switched about l0 years ago and it was great but for the last two years it has come back. Going to tournaments and shooting bull eyes , i believe brought it back I know it fun to go to the shoots but it also places a lot more stress on you If I could do it over I would avoid competition and practice my form. Go out and shoot with you buddies for fun. only my opinion..

I go back and forth all the time.

I also like to switch back and forth just to ruffle the feathers of the dominate eye people.

I shoot 3ds with two friends who switched from right to left for the same reason TP. They will go back to right hand bows but they find its a hit or miss kind of thing, they have said TP just never goes away.So they mostly stay with a lefty.

Thanks for replies fellas. I still have a few shots right hand in the shed to balance out the body but I can't shoot at targets or stumping. One problem I have is the 2 nice, right hand custom Big foot bows sitting on the rack. I think you might be right Camodave. Just blank bale right hand and enjoy shooting lefty. Going to my first comp. in 10 years on Sunday. At the first flinch I'll pack the club shoots in and just stump shoot/hunt.

Cheers Motty

About 9 months ago I discovered that my eye dominance had shifted from LED to RED, and I'd been a lefty for 58 years. So I started shooting RH with a light target bow and found it was not that hard to develop a good form and build up to heavier bows. Then I went back to shooting LH sometimes and now I shoot about 60% RH, 40% LH. All my bows are in the 50-60 range, and my biggest challenge is remembering which bow I grabbed and what side I am shooting with. Admittedly, it takes some mental discipline to keep my aiming straight, as LH is not nearly as natural, which is why I shoot more RH, but after a few warm up arrows, I shoot almost equally bad on either side. This has also taken some of the stress from daily shooting off my left shoulder which has an un-repaired rotator cuff tear. The WORST part is I have to keep enough LH AND RH bows around the house.

I started out righty in my youth and shot that way for 20 years after. I switched to lefty because i am left eye dominant. It was a great way to improve my shooting. I developed many bad habits as a righty. When I made the switch I made sure to develop my form. I have shot an arrow here and there right handed and it feels just as foreign as when I picked up a left handed bow.

After rotator cuff surgery I switched to left; it took me 27 days to get use to it. Every now & then I'll shoot right handed but I tend to torque the string a bit because of difficult in rotating the shoulder properly.

I did notice a decrease in target panic for a few years but then it came back I'm working on it now ;)

I switched to left handed about a year ago,and went really good for me now I shoot about the same right or left handed. It does take sometime getting use to.
