I'll be working in San Diego in the July/August time frame. Would like to pack my bow if there any ranges in the immediate area. Thanks in advance.

There are three great ranges in the area. Two are open to the public and one is private. The public ranges are both within 2 minutes from downtown. One is a 30+ acre walking range inside Balboa Park. The other is in the Morley Field sports complex and is a multi distance practice / 900 round style range. Both are an honor system $2 donation.

Look up my posts and you'll find a few picks of the walking range.

Let me know when you get here and I'll show you both.

That's the place. If you would like to go to the private course Jaz mentioned, I can take you as I am a club member. Come on down.

TradhuntDon, that looks the the downhill shot from the road, about 50 yards or so? It was originally set up to be shot then walk back up the hill. You could get tired real quick.

M60gunner, yep, just about 15 feet off the road. We have a good Range master and he and his son and others, change the set up once in awhile. That is Bear State at Lake Henshaw. We just had a 42 target shoot this last Sunday. The course will work you!

I know only to well about the course. I helped setup the orginal when we moved from Esc. there is property there that has not been used for range yet. Only the poison oak holds you back. Before we relocated I shot the range every weekend unless it was raining. I sure miss those 3D targets on the "member's range". Isn't that one of the Elks the Mortons refurbished?

The San Diego Archers have a 28 target 3D shoot the first Sunday of every month and field rounds other Sundays. Bear State Bowhunters may have a fun shoot at Lake Henshaw the 4th Sunday in July. You can check their websites.

There is also the Oranco Bowmen that may have scheduled shoots while you are here. Cherry Valley Bow Hunters has their Big Bear shoot August 1 & 2 up near Big Bear at about 7K feet. 60 targets over two days with camping on site. This is a great shoot about 100 miles from San Diego. If you do not have camping gear you could stay in Big Bear about 25 miles away.

I'm in arrived in SD on 7/12 and learned there is a shoot at Balboa Park this Sunday 7/19.

OK, TradHuntDon it is 105 yards from the road to the Lion target. I just had to try one. Arrow had the range but went left ( I peeked I guess ) going to try again in AM. Sunday I will be at Balboa. Monday back to AZ.
