Guys ,I was doing estate cleanup with a buddy, and the owner has her fathers collection of around 20 Hill Bows, all heavy pounds 70-100 at 28". She has one that belonged to Hill called "Yellow Wolf". Could anybody name a price on this??

From: heavybows
Date: 28-Jun-15

Any pictures? Are they all right hand or some left hand?

From: aromakr Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member
Date: 28-Jun-15

Jay B: How is the bow attributed to belonging to Howard? With positive proof that this was a personal bow of his its just another bow, just the owners word won't cut it. All the early bows were named, before there were serial numbers. Is the back radiused with woven green or grey glass? Pic's would certainly help. Bob

From: Jay B
Date: 28-Jun-15

All righties

From: Jay B
Date: 28-Jun-15

All documented Bob, Craig Eiken purchased the bow for the owner, most of the bows are unused and in the original shipping boxes or tubes. 20 something beautiful Hills.

Jay B: Documented by who? Bob

From: Ron LaClair Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 28-Jun-15

Jason, I sent you a PM

From: Jay B
Date: 28-Jun-15

All the paperwork is there Bob, most of these bows never saw an arrow, or ever left the shipping boxes. There's a few Shulz and Jerry Hills in there too. I don't know a lot about Hill bows, but I can tell you for sure, it's all legit. If anyone wants more info contact Matt Hamilton from Texas, he spoke to the owner via phone today, and he's going to help her sell them through the Traditional Archery Society. [email protected]

From: Jay B
Date: 28-Jun-15

For some reason I can't access my PMs now, Ron. My email is [email protected].

From: Jay B
Date: 28-Jun-15

I was working cleaning up the estate, so didn't have time to do pictures. Jenny is going to send pics to Matt. I did have brief looks at most of the Hills, and besides Yellow Wolf there are some other real beauties. Most are newer, made by Craig, with the exception of Yellow Wolf, and a couple others. The two Schulz bows were new in box too.

From: Jay B
Date: 28-Jun-15

And yes, Yellow Wolf had green glass

From: Jay B
Date: 28-Jun-15

The guys I work for purchased a Ton of broad heads also, lots of Hills, Bear Razorheads, and assorted collector heads. Most of the Bear heads are unopened in the blister packs, all Grayling made. There's a couple hundred unused Hills, all shiny as the day they were made. I'll be listing these on the classifieds this coming week.

From: Kelly

Any Schulz Hunter Heads?

From: Jay B

Didn't see any Schulz Heads, but there are some Jerry Hills

Wow!! Not cool to dangle this find in front of the Wolf Pack of Leatherwallers. You got some red meat there, brother. History is priceless-- if it can be documented. Stay on top of this and keep us all informed about any sale/photos/auction, etc....

From: Jay B
Date: 29-Jun-15

Today after work I'm going to try to get over there and get pics

From: Jay B
Date: 29-Jun-15

In case anyone is wondering, I have no monetary stake in this, I just want to see those bows in the hands of those who want them, and for Jenny to get maximum return for them. Her father would have wanted it that way. He taught all the kids on his block how to hunt and shoot. The ironic thing is, I've lived 3 blocks away from Richard, for 14 years, and never met him. He was the mentor I needed when I started archery in earnest, 14 years ago.

From: Jay B
Date: 29-Jun-15

I'm hoping she spoke with Matt yesterday about auctioning Yellow Wolf through the Traditional Archery Society.

From: Jay B
Date: 29-Jun-15

The guys I work for also purchased a huge lot of arrows of every description including new in box Bear Cedars, orange Eastons, Bear Magnums, Legacies, all brand new never shot. I'll be listing all this stuff on classifieds this week. All the arrows are heavy spines, and most are cut to 27 1/2" inches.

From: NickG

Collector value

From: NickG
Date: 29-Jun-15

New in the box whatever, is going to bring more money than used. Some collectors buy and never plan to use. My buddy has few colt revolvers that have never been fired in his collection, also has the same models that he shoots. what ever floats your boat

From: lauckster

What's the poundage on the Two Schulz?

From: Jay B
Date: 29-Jun-15

The Shulz bows were unopened in the shipping boxes, and I left them that way. I didn't have a chance to get back there today, I'm crazy busy with work right now. Anybody interested should check in with Matt Hamilton, and see how the phone call with Jenny went. I'm apologize to those PMing me, but after I open one, I can't access any others until I sign out and log back on. Use my email address to contact me, I'm trying to set up another meeting to take pictures. Thanks for all your interest.

From: lauckster

Thanks much.

From: Jay B
Date: 29-Jun-15

This guy was a hoarder, everything was in duplicates, the pile of Hill heads is pretty astounding, as well as the Razorheads. More than a man could ever use in a lifetime, even if he hunted every day. I'm going to be cataloging and researching the heads, as soon as get a minute. Jenny also has an old English Longbow with horn nocks that's in great shape, looks to be 1800's era.

From: NickG
Date: 29-Jun-15

Runner, if it can be proven that it was used by Howard, then to me that's worth more. 2 identical Schulz bows, 1 new in the box and 1used by the guy who bought it, new in the box worth more to me.

From: Jay B
Date: 29-Jun-15

All the bows I did take out of the socks/boxes showed no signs of any delams, they were all stored in the guy's bed room. He went to sleep every night surrounded by his bows and knives.

From: Doublelung
Date: 29-Jun-15

I sure hope that you wiped the Drool off of them, before putting them back. :-)

From: Jay B
Date: 29-Jun-15

And Runner, don't start your negative bullshit, I've told you before stay off my threads

From: Jay B
Date: 29-Jun-15

I'm not a Hill or Longbow guy, so there was no drool from me, but I do recognize their value and beauty.

From: Jay B
Date: 29-Jun-15

Yes, Runner, when I was asking for prayers for my brother's recovery from heroine addiction, and hurting worse than I ever have in my life, you got on a prayer thread and started questioning God's hand in these matters. You never have anything constructive or nice to say, and I gather you're a miserable person by the posts you put on here. I've seen it time and again with you, This is the first thread I've started in months, and lo and behold you rear you ugly head on my thread once again. Hey 'Wallers, sorry for the lapse in updates, life never lets me do what I want!!LOL!! I tried to get in touch with Jenny today, but failed to do so!:( However, I spoke to her neighbor, and he said she was taking photos of the bows today, hopefully to send to Matt Hamilton. I went to the Buy&Sell today, and started going through broad heads and arrows. I will be putting a classified add up shortly, lots of Hill heads, tons of Bear heads, NIB arrows, too much to list.

Not to be a jerk but I'd suggest maybe using another site or something. I can't imagine a sell thread lasting this long. I'd suggest photo bucket to host but many other sites work. It doesn't bother me that the thread is here I'm just sure it's going to get axed soon.

My buddy shelled $4,000 out of his pocket to buy the contents of the house, minus the bows. Runner, the first time I went there, I told her what she had. She knew the bows were valuable, in particular Yellow Wolf. There should not be any confusion from here forward, it's all legit.

Let me add some to this, The Silver Belt buckle was from the "North American Longbow Safari" I believe that one is from Safari #3. The Elephant heads are Not Howard Hills they Look like Bob Swinehart heads that were made by Joe Caldwell from So. California. Here is how you tell the difference The Hill Elephant hears have a smaller shank and its gas welded to the blade, The Swinehart heads have a larger dia. shank and are tig welded to the blade. Bob

Jason,

There appears to be a frenzy regarding this estate. Some folks are being cool and some are being jackasses.

All: For the record, I am not, repeat, not buying any of the bows in the estate. I am just trying to help a lady out. So..... The quickest way to not be included in the Estate Sale.....is to be a jackass.

From: J Matthew
Date: 05-Jul-15

All,

I have some pictures of the bows. Unfortunately, the angles and distance and such, of the pictures, are not good to post for sale. So, I am coordinating a photographer to take pictures from the proper angles and distances. That coordination will take 2 weeks from today.

Then, the pictures will be forwarded to two people, of my choosing, to provide information and opinions of value.

Then, a decision will be made as to the best way to market the bows on behalf of the estate. Individual Sale, Public Auction and/or Private Auction.

If you wish to be notified about the sale: list your email address on this thread. When the time comes, folks will be notified.

I will not be answering any PMs.

Matt Hamilton.

There are moderators on this site, if they see an issue, they will handle it, everybody else should mind there own beeswax. I spelled out my role and my intentions very clearly from the get go. I'm not selling anything here, period, end of story. I was showing what I found on a site I thought was dedicated to traditional archery, not bitching and naysaying.

I'm curious. Did this fellow have a shop or store? It's more an accumulation than a collection.

The only books I see from the photos that have any value would be American Archery, Arab Archery and Sagittarius. American Archery is in poor condition and not likely to excite a collector. Cannot tell much on the other two. Don't take this wrong, but the owner of these books was more interested in the contents and most likely shared them with others based upon the condition of them, rarely than being a collector. Nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't expect much from the books shown here.

I get asked to appraise stuff occasionally. If the item is reported belonging to a specific person and the value of that item is due to that, rather than the item itself, the first thing I require is documented chain of custody or other written documentation. Your wasting my time otherwise.

Liquid Amber thank you! The books were lying in the rain overnight, so most are ruined. I found packing slips for a lot of the books, He paid a lot of money for a bunch of the books, back in the 60's and 70's. No, he didn't have a store, but he did product testing for Bear, Pearson, Hill and others.

Of all the items, these I'd like to know about, the Hill stuff does nothing for me.

I suspect they would appear a little ratty after spending some time in the rain. Bummer, I hate to see a nice piece ruined.

Thanks for sharing the photos. I'm not a buyer, but I would love to see pix of the bows and I am sure many others on here would. Perhaps a new post would be best for that.

Never mind the jackasses. Once I know their handles I just put them on my ignore list and bypass them. I do hope the moderators will get around to banning them. - lbg

Failed to get pics of the bows again today, it's getting a little irritating.

We keep finding more stuff, this guy had broad heads and accessories everywhere. I was wondering where the field points were, I was beginning to think he only shot broad heads!!

Liquid Amber, I don't think he read the books more than once, the older ones he bought used, I think they were beat up when he got them. Sagittarius looks like it was only read once, the spine was barely broken in. They all sat in a box in a downpour overnight, so they swelled up. Reading Sagittarius I found a story and pics of Swinehart with Frank Mundus(inspiration for the crazy captain in Jaws) with a Shark taken on the Cricket II, off Montauk Point(15 minutes from my home) Very cool local connection!!

Sorry Jay, I was off work today and my oldest daughter came down with my grandson,so I took them out for the day.

I took a trip with my daughter out to long island to see all the bows. On my way home i called Jay and arranged to look at all this stuff. I bought some through emails and he sent it to me earlier I'm the week. Bought some more when i stopped by and he gave me a few freebies. I think we're going to have a shoot off at the LI shoot this year for a couple more items, lol

Hmmm, Longbow vs. Recurve, Hill vs. Bear, this could be good!!! Thx Nick, and for your dedication to your family, you're a good man! Your daughter is a doll, thanks for stopping by!!

Thanks Jay, it was really cool to see all the bows and all the things your buddy bought. I'm making a display box to hang the Swinehart heads in my "man room" My daughter wants to move out to Long Island now! LOL It would have been awesome to meet Richard. Anybody that can draw a bow to 184# @ 28" has to be cool! Here's a pic of the bow he used to set the world record. My back was sore so I was only able to get it to 26"

Jenny still owns the bows, George bought everything but the bows. That is one beefy bow!!

I took pictures of all the bows. 95% are in very good + to excellent condition. A few are brand new never shot! VERY impressive collection. Just a tip, anyone interested in John Schulz American longbows should keep an eye out for when they go for sale.

Really do hope you come out to Suffolk Archers for the Long Island Traditional next June, I'll be practicing my butt off until then, I'm gonna win that buckle back from you!! LOL!! They also do a nock a block tourney in July, and the Silver Arrow Hunter's shoot in September. The Hunter's shoot separates the men from the boys, any hit outside the kill zone is negative points!!!

Well fellows, I found out yesterday that Jenny packed up the bows and went to live with her sister in New Jersey. I never got a chance to get pictures, so Matt or Nick, please post the pics you have. Keep your eyes on eBay that's where I think the bows are going to be sold.

All the Hill style bows but one are extra heavy. Here is the one. Craig built bow, with exposed square faded and real nice riser wood that is 55#@ 28" All the others are from 75-100#. Most of the bows are in very good + to brand new condition, just way to heavy for most guys

Here's a pic of John Schulz from a couple years ago, sent to me by Kelly Peterson. There were some of John's bows in the collection, 2 still in the boxes. I'm really bummed I didn't get the opportunity to go back and get good pics of the bows.
