I recently had the chance to spend a couple of weeks with the new Rose Oak Creations Heritage take down. Bowyer Brandon Stahl has been passing the prototype bow around to members of Trad Archers (TradArchers.com) it was finally my turn. Probably no surprise but I wasn’t disappointed. The prototype bow was very attractive with an actionwood and hardwood riser (purple heart?), and black glass limbs. The bow is also available in the usual exotic hardwoods and limb veneers.

At 58”, the test bow feels very sleek and slim. It was identical to my daily shooter at 50# at my draw weight and shot the same 30" ACC 3-49 (.390 spine) with a 175 grain tip beautifully. Bare shafts were right in the group with fletched, I didn’t need to change a thing except to lower the nock point. I shoot split, my guess is the previous tester shot three under.
The bow is well balanced, with minimal vibration and quiet. I’m used to shooting a 64” TD recurve loaded down with a bow quiver and three arrows so the slim and sleek feeling was the first thing I noticed. The second was how nice the bow behaved, especially considering it weighed about 1/3 of what I’m used to.
The fit and finish of the bow was second to none. This bow was finished in a hunting ready satin, but a classy high-gloss is available too. Brandon recently posted a photo of a couple risers with the gloss finish.

As many of you know Brandon has been making limbs for Bear TDs for several years and they have been very well received. The limbs he makes have a slightly more aggressive profile than original Bear limbs. The Heritage TD riser uses the same limb blanks as the Bear TD limbs, although the Heritage limbs are slightly different in the wedge and attachment holes.
The Heritage TD riser is in between the Bear “A” and “B” riser at 17” in length and is available in lengths of 58”, 60”, and 62”. The overall shape of the riser is similar to the Bears, but the grip, profile, and contours reflect Brandon’s personal taste. I’d describe the grip as slim and of a medium angle, very comfortable and offering a good repeatable position for the hand.
One of the neatest things about this bow is that it’s a three-piece take down, but once assembled looks much like a one-piece bow. The limbs and riser blend into each other, with only the limb bolts and grain of the wood to indicate the TD feature. Some of the photos on the website of solid hardwood risers and limb butts are almost indistinguishable from a one piece. These photos are from the website courtesy of Brandon Stahl:

If you are in the market for a custom TD recurve, in my opinion the Heritage is one you should look at. Brandon has it priced at a relative bargain compared to other bows with this level of craftsmanship. There is a running thread on the prototype bow here (http://tradarchers.com/forum/index.p...ic,1024.0.html) with lots of photos and some insight into Brandon's design thoughts. Also plenty more photos of the prototype and a few of the first customs delivered to customers.

I'd like to know how far center the bow is cut. Awfully stiff shafts for a 50# recurve. I do like the looks of that bow...

I got to try that bow out back in December. It shot 2117's very well and overall seemed to be very spine tolerant. Definitely a nice bow and on my want list.

I had a chance to shoot that pass around bow at the Pre Spring Arrow Fling in Alabama last February. It's as good as you will ever find in my opinion. Smooth as silk and fits the hand like a trusty old Custom Kodiak. Given the funds and lots of other choices, I would buy it in a second. That bow is built to carry by your side comfortably and hit smack where you are looking.

No one is better than the products Brandon puts out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry other Bowyer's if your offended its not meant to offend its meant to identify the level of his commitment to the custom bow and its perspective clients.
Been waiting on this bow also ever since he mentioned it to me. Just hop one day I can patched up enough to shoot it and hopefully get one all tricked out.
Brandon's works are flawless and they all shoot and I have several of his works of art.
Whats a little surprising to me is the purple heart that I been thinking lately how to get it incorporated into a bow that it stands out but not to much that it would looks guawudey.
Beautiful

I shot the lefty pass around. My own should be coming in August. I'd love to go for the high gloss but I fear I won't like it for hunting then. Must decide soon though!

I'm waiting to hear back from Brandon on some questions about the takedown. How small is the throat of the grip, mand with the action wood riser, how heavy was the bow? One the limbs with the clear glass, is there any issues? My last Widow had a lot of problems with the clear glass, as did my Morrison, so I'm very gun shy about clear glass right now. I didn't find on the web site where he talked about how far past center the riser is cut.

Thanks for all the kind words guys.
I appreciate it.
Anthony,
I've had very good luck with my clear glass for the past couple years. I bought some really good stuff from a good run that Gordon's had a few years back.
Unfortunately I just ran out of that glass supply last month, and I did have a small hiccup with some from a new batch, but I'm pretty sure that's all resolved now.
I now have some good glass back in stock and I should have more available for the rest of this year.
I actually just finished a bow up this week that had practically flawless glass in it. I was very happy with it.
I can't guarantee that all of the glass will all be that good, but I always do my best to use the best quality that I can find.
If the quality of the clear glass dips down in the future (like it did a year or so ago), I'll just use colored glass instead.
It'll probably mean less orders because most prefer clear glass, but I don't like using streaky clear glass any more than customers like having it in their bows.
I do have a lot of different colors in stock right now (many that haven't been available in recent years), so that gives me (and my customers) a lot more options going forward.
However, Gordon's did put a lot of work in improving their clear glass this year, so most bowyers should have some pretty decent clear glass to work with this year.
With any luck, the same quality will continue into the future. ;^)

In the picture that Easykeeper put up of the 2 risers getting sprayed - the one on the right is mine. I've seen some pictures of bows recently that were done in a gloss finish that looked so nice, I just had to have Brandon do mine in the glass as well. Plus, the motivation for my bow is the Bear Supreme TD, which has a gloss finish also.
Here is a picture I posted in the First Shot thread the other day - I love this bow !

"I've been to Rose Oak's website, but are there pictures and descriptions of the Heritage in the different wood options available ? That sure would be a big help in making a decision."
Up until recently, I didn't even have the Heritage listed on my website yet. They've been ordered through word of mouth and I haven't made very many of them.
A few of them have even had very similar wood combo's to each other, so I don't have a lot of photo's with different combinations.
I typically don't put descriptions on my example pictures because I do not always have a reliable source for some of them, and some woods can vary a lot in color and grain patterns.
Luckily most customers seem to have an idea on what most woods generally look like, and which ones they tend to prefer.
If they're not sure, they can just ask me for suggestions on wood combo's that might look nice together (from the woods that I currently have in stock).
The woods that I offer can vary from time to time, so I try to keep my PDF order forms updated with woods that I currently have in stock.
The order forms/wood lists are accessible on the website.
