In this latest issue of TBM, Denny Sturgis Jr, writes about what he believes are the three most common mental issues that affect us bowhunters. Some of Denny's earlier writings stress the importance of having a system, irregardless of the style of shootng you use.Pretty good read. Also Mr. Asbell has a great article about aging and the concentration involved in shooting a bow. Both articles are great reads. Its refreshing to see these guys writing about the mental side of this bare bow stuff we engage in.

I too enjoy reading and learning from Denny. Working class family man who gets it done. From what I've seen his wife puts meat on the table also, good hunting family.
Have a good one

BITTNMITTEN beat me to it. I love this article. I often short draw (especially when there is an audience...) and the gun shooting analogy clicked with me. When do you aim stupid? Once the gun butt is in your shoulder and your finger hovers the trigger.... Not before. Draw to anchor THEN worry about aiming. Perfect!

We need to get them to co-author an article...my problem is I have a great system but my old brain and my old body often have issues with remembering what it is and then executing it

Great magazine with lots of Great stuff to take to heart and learn from. I do miss Dave Peterson's writing though, I always enjoyed his camp fire philosophy.

Mental? Darn I hate that. That's what makes me short draw in front of an audience. I wish I could un-mental that. Skeet

I always manage to find deer and turkeys who don't know my system. I am trying to teach the system to a few bears in the neighborhood so at least somebody besides me knows the system and will follow procedures.

Denny knows of what he speaks, and one should pay attention. The mental game will make or break you in the woods or on the range.
My last time with Larry Fisher was standing under the porch area at Denton Hill as a tornado passed by about four miles away, and it was raining like it was real serious about it. We were laughing about the whole situation and waiting for the wind to take away the tents. It didn't though, and things went back to normal after that. He was a good feller for sure.

bet I shot 100,000 arrows before I watched masters of the barebow always shot decent but the segment where he talks about rolling in to anchor acually pulling in to the left made me pause just a second really helped me out just a simple change Dennys segment was my favorite part

I enjoy the stuff Denny writes and films. He,Rod Jenkins and Rick Welch have made me a better shot. I shoot my own way with some tips from those guys thrown in. Watched all of their vids over and over.and in my opinion having CONFIDENCE out weighs most everything else. RC

Taking control of the shot and keeping that control even when my target moves is the ting I struggle with most. Denny has help me with that. The game animals we hunt often dictate the shot, and its so hard to let down if things aren't right - especially at close range. In addition to his writings, Denny is a great guy to be around. Mike

Denny Jr. comes from good stock. I communicate regularly with his father Dennis Sr. who provides me with a wealth of information, as he to has had to convert from right to left hand shooting due to injuries. I would also like to see his hunting exploits highlighted as I'm sure there would be many and very interesting and exciting. A family that's given a lot to the sport of Traditional archery. Hats off. That's quite a large angus. I didn't know the Texans allowed them to be hunted, but I'd use at least 45 pounds on them.

Kinda funny seeing a recurve instead of the infamous longbow, I'm sure we'll read about this venture later.

Denny did a good job of laying out important stuff in a short piece. Made my boy (who hates to read, by the way) read it. He read it two or three times. He'll be hunting, first time this fall, and I think he took a little from it. Thanks!!
