I have an old Fasco model 250. It is a 68 inch AMO 29# @ 28 inch target style recurve. It has an old target style sight attached to it. The problem is that a previous owner had painted the riser black, rather crudely. The finish on the limbs is also kind of bad looking and could use a sand and recoat.

My question is, is this bow worth putting the work into? I don't know much about Fasco bows, and would like to know peoples opinions on whether I should refinish it or not. Some tips on how to do it would be helpful as well.

Crookedstix should chime in, he may know a little something about fastco.

If you haven't already shot it, I would do that first. If you like it and want to refinish it I say go for it. I f you don't like the way it shoots you can always use it to practice your refininshing talents with it. I always shoot mine first before putting any work into them. Nothing worse than going to all that work and then find an unshootable bow. Lance.

I would strip the paint and see what's under it. It's not worth much as it is, and some elbow drilled the sight holes plumb through the sight window, then put nuts on the end of the bolts. LOL. You have nothing to lose by refinishing it, and everything to gain. As it is it is not collectible and it's a bow. Bows were made to be used, not looked at. If it breaks, then look at it.

I agree with George. Go for it. I bet you won't regret it.

Take a bit of acetone and clean off one limb up near the tip. If it has more that two maple lams, and very small tips, then it's worth refinishing-- there's a real bow underneath it all. But if it has squarish clunky tips and two maple lams, it's one from after Fred & company were gone... which makes it a FIASCO instead of a FASCO, and a fine bow to use to heat your home if you have a woodstove. Just one opinion, of course... ;-)

I have to agree. You have nothing to lose by refinishing the bow. You can "only" make it better.

Get yourself some 100% acetone finger nail polish remover and one of those green scotch-brite pads clean it up and see what ya got under the paint bd

I've refinished a dozen of them. Great shooting bows.

Close up of the tip. Its three layers. Two thicker slices of a darker wood and one thin. Not sure if that qualifies it to be not a FIASCO

The nuts for the sight are still ugly. Overall its an improvement though.

Here's a FASCO 225 - must be about the same year as the 250. The original owner treated this one with a little more respect - you can see what a nice piece of work it is.

Limbs are in pretty good shape, a couple good dings. It shoots nice though. It is really fun being so light. The sight will be fun to play with too.
