As well all know and have followed and prayed over, our friend Jim Fetrow has been hospitalized for the last several weeks. The Bowsite management has graciously allowed us to run a benefit auction to raise money to help alleviate the major medical expenses that have resulted from Jim's hospitalization.

Here is how it will work: Donors will be posting their items here this evening. At 7:00 am Pacific time Monday, June 1st, the floor will be open to bidding. If you bid before them, your bid will be tossed. At 7:00 pm Pacific time, Sunday, June 7, the bidding will close and the highest bidder for each item will win that item.

Payment can be handled a couple of ways. The winner can send payment through the YouCaring webpage setup for Jim here.

http://www.youcaring.com/help-a-neighbor/bowhunters-helping-a-fallen-friend/349206

Or, you can make a check or money order payable to the Fetrows and send it to me to be forwarded to Jim and Mary Ellen. In either case, once payment is received, I will notify the donor that payment has been made good and the item can them be shipped.

Shipping: Unless other arrangements are made with the donor, the winning bidder will be responsible for shipping costs.

If you are interested in bidding, please post to the thread with your bid amount.

ATTENTION, VERY IMPORTANT!!!

This is likely to be a lengthy and image intensive thread. DO NOT POST QUESTIONS ABOUT THE ITEM, THE AUCTION, OR IDLE CHAT TO THIS THREAD. If you have a question about an item, PM the donor. If you have a question about the auction, PM me. Bear in mind that I work full time and will likely not be able to answer PM's until I return home from work.

I'd like to thank Pete Elliot who was instrumental in rounding up donors and his input on organizing, and all of the donors who have been so willing to step up.

Fred bear signed t-shirt from the North American bowhunters jamboree and a hand written thanks you note from Mrs. Bear. I'm am not up on value but I figure 25 is a good starting bid , you bear collectors might like this. Bid it up to help Jim, I'll take care of shipping in US.

I made this leather armguard for this auction. The pics don't show the complete detail with the coloring on it. I blended dyes in different layers and in different light it shows different detail. If you want more pics or have questions my email will be better than a PM but I'll respond to either. [email protected] or [email protected]. I'm posting 3 pictures.

I’m offering 2 Sets of materials to build bamboo backed osage orange bows, including some tools. Set #1 and Set #2 will be auctioned separately. These are top quality materials and tools… the best I have.

Starting bid is $100. The tools alone are worth as much.

So that these might bring more help to Jim who has helped many others, I offer this… The higher the winning bid, the more work I’m willing to do on these. P.M. me for details.

Set #1 includes:

Moso bamboo backing, blemish free, long spacing between the nodes. There will be no more than two nodes in each limb.

Osage slats, clear, straight, rift sawn, seasoned over 10 years, thick latewood rings and good density, 1/2 x 1 3/4 x 36”.

Osage handle piece, clear, quarter sawn, 1 1/8 x 1 3/4 x 14”.

Water buffalo horn block. Enough for both tips.

Next up:

From Hank White aka "Tinhorn/THRC" we have a 1958 Bear Kodiak. 64", 57# with white glass. Bow is in generally good shape, very clean with no twist whatsoever to the limbs. Decals are all in excellent shape.

It has significant longitudinal stress cracks in both upper and lower limbs. No transverse cracks and NO signs of any delamination. I have braced and shot about a dozen arrows through it without issue, however, owing to the longitudinal stress cracks I cannot warranty this as a "shooter". It may hold perfectly well for a long time.....or not. If you desire to shoot it, I'd suggest heavy arrows of 10 GPP minimum. Even as a collector's display piece it is quite nice, and would be a worthy addition to any Bear archery collection.

Opening bid $100.00

The following arrows are handcrafted by me.

I would like to offer three hand-planed, white pine arrows, which will self-nocked. The fletching will be wrapped with artificial sinew as will the self-nock. The maximum length is just under 30 inches but can be less than that. The arrows will come with field points. The spine will be 40-45#.

The arrows will be unstained but finished with polyacrylic.

These arrows are not made yet but similar ones are on the first page of my site.

Starting bid is $20.

Once payment is received, assuming there is a bid, as described in Iktomi's first post I'll start working on them.

Here is a very special item. It is a Yew English Longbow blank laid out by Jim Fetrow himself and given to me in the early 2000s, probably around 2001. Jim said it was old growth yew from Oregon that he cut decades ago with Gilman Keasey if I am not mistaken. It is 72" long, 1-1/4" wide to 5/8" nocks. The sapwood is still full thickness and will need to be thinned. Quite honestly, I was never confident in making a bow of it and was saving it for when and if I ever mastered the craft. It deserves better than I can give it right now or maybe ever. The history and quality of this piece is remarkable and cannot be duplicated. A similar piece would go for $250 or more if you could even find it. I'll open the bidding at $100. I pay shipping to the CONUS and we can discuss to other locales.

This is a beat up, well worn Easton ACC 371 arrow that I used on stage for my Instinctive archery shows. It has my Rocking A brand on it and I have signed and numbered it. In 30 years of shows I have given away less than 40 of these numbered and signed arrows to special friends. Ted Nugent has # 8 and Coach Mack Brown has #35. Anyway, this is the lowest number I had available and is #17.

(Speaking of Nugent Rick should be posting a special auction item Ted wanted to donate to the cause too when I told him a Bowhunter needed help. He immediately wanted to help. That will be a seperate post and item. )

Anyway, if you want to have one of my beat up, used arrows this would be a great cause to bid on one. I will ship the arrow to Rick and he can make sure the winner gets it.

Thanks to everyone for helping such a good man out. God bless you all and Gpd Bless our friend Jim.

I would like to offer for auction a genuine piece of archery history.

An English longbow made by Thomas Grant of Edinburgh. This bow is one of only two examples of Thomas Grants work The bow is dated 1770 and is monogrammed S F . It's believed the bow was made for Simon Frazer of the Royal Company of Archers. The Bow was stored in Archers Hall, the headquarters of the Royal company of archers until it came into the possession of bowyer Roy King. Roy King was bowyer to the Royal company and also bowyer to the Mary Rose trust. The bow came into my possession following the death of Roy King. This bow is mentioned in the book "The Romance of Archery" by archery historian Hugh Soar.

IMPORTANT ... due to the age and condition of this bow, it CANNOT be repaired or shot.

I’m offering a 3-day hunt for two people on 520 private acres in the Ozark Mountains of Northwest Arkansas. We can do this hunt in November/December 2015. Can we start the bidding at $150 (that's total, not per person). There is a good population of deer, turkey and squirrel, the occasional black bear ambles through along with hogs in the area that we’d like to get rid of.

We’ve got a handful of stands you may use, or feel free to bring your own. The property is located in Pettigrew, AR – a few miles from the Ozark National Forest (2 mil acres) and the Buffalo River. Our property has hills and hollers, old pasture and ponds & creeks. The forest is a white oak-hickory mix. FYI – the rifle season runs Nov 14th – Dec 6th, but may be subject to change so be sure and check the Arkansas Game & Fish website as Fall approaches. A non-resident 3-day hunting license is $125.00.

You can stay in our not-so-luxurious:) 900 square foot cabin complete with wood-stove, propane cook stove and beds.

You’ll need your bow, of course, and bring a bag of potatoes to fry, some eggs, flour & bacon. I’ll show you the property and do my best to make sure you have a great time – if you’re nice, I may even grill some burgers for you!

Here are a pair of hand made muskie lures I produced in the 1990s. They were lathe turned out of western red cedar and have hand painted glass eyes. They are signed on the bottom. The top lure is one of the first year jerkbaits I made. It's best hung up as a collectable, but I can replace it with something better for actual use. The bottom lure is a through-wire construction topwater bait I called the Buzzzard. I have a lot of other lures, but I have not gotten around to going through them. If someone wins the auction, I could send pics of some of the other lures if these don't suffice. I pay shipping. Start the bid wherever you want.

Jawge, I hear ya. You're getting me pretty emotional here... and that's not like me :^) My dad would be smilin' too.

Jawge, Mr. Fetrow, like you, has been a serious, steering, mentor to me for a long, long time itegral to something that has been life-changing for me. I hope you grasp the gravity of that. I also hope you guys realize the full effect you can have on those of us who follow directly or indirectly in your footsteps. I don't know if I'll ever be able to repay yinz, but this is a chance for me to try. I was watching your arrows closely, but none fitted me. If you have something, arrows, shoots, staves, bows, available I could make use of, please post it up for auction and if you let me know what you could use that I might have, I'll do the same. (P.M. me if you like)... A locust stave... some multiflora rose shoots... Need some osage, mulberry, stingray or beavertail for grips, hickory, sinew, horn, whatever, any-ever... us bowyers need to throw it all out there right now... Let me know if you need or want anything at all. Maybe I'll have it. We have a great opportunity here to help a selfless one of our own... let's not let it pass us by.

xoxo

I just lost a friend who had no next-of-kin. Pretty sad.

What is holding you back on the arrows? Is it the low spine?

Still smiling here.

How about this Jeff.

Here are 4 strips of .040" x 1.5" x 72" fiberglass.

Two strips are light grey and two strips are "caramel" (burnt orange).

These are some "not so common" but classy colors.

$40 opening bid please.

BTW -

I've got tanned deer hides- some split, some not. These were done by Uber Glove Co... Unsplit in "buckskin", but I have split hides in a real dark brown or doeskin white. Cost me about $50 each to have them tanned & shipped, but if anybody needs one or more.... Bid fairly.

And I also whipped up some sinew cordage. Good weight for stitching up any leather project... About .75 mm. I have 12 feet or so built up, IIRC. But if anybody wants some, I will make more & you can bid by the foot for as much as you think you need. Will try to come up with pics, but I think it is all at my mother-in-law's house which is currently lifted 13' off of the foundation for post-Sandy repairs...

Also adding to the list.... 178 rounds' worth of once-fired, 7mm-08 brass. I've got .45/70 as well... About 1/2 dozen boxes of that...

I will try to answer all the ?s PM'd me on the Black Swan Bow:

*I only shot this bow at sunday nite league shoot with a brace height of 7 3/8". *See attached pics of the tips. *The bow is around 20 years old +-. *I have a call into my friend whom I received the bow from to get some more background on the history. *Do not feel you will insult me on the bid. I did not put a minimum because I want whatever it brings to go to Jim & his family.

Happy bidding, good luck, John

Here's something a little different- an "Art" arrow that I display & will not shoot because it's too pretty. I ordered a bunch of bamboo shafts & arrows from Iktomi a couple of years ago, and to show me what he could do he threw in this little cutie. Peacock feather fletching, dark red nock, lots of cool blue wrapping material.

Suggested starting bid, $25. If this gets bid on, I will order another dozen arrows from Iitomi- reward (or punishment) for all his good work here.

Terry, good man. I'm in. This is the sort of thing I've been hoping for since the beginning of the thread. Thank you.

Are they sanded one side and smooth on the other like BoTuff? I've never seen the 'autumn orange' before. I like it a lot. I'm generally a 'clear glass guy' but each of the sets you offer harbors great possibilities.

If I win them, I'll be anxious to coordinate them aestetically as best I can with any potential buyer's preferences, and vow to offer the builds here first on the Leatherwall and then send the entire selling proceeds to our buddy Jim and his family.

I bid $70 for the glass.

Guys that other custom knife I have up that guy pretty well know in the circles in Pa. he builds a great custom knife. This has never been used New Buffalo Pa. He's got an add in the Pa. Long Bow assoc. his name is John Johnson. I paid 150.00 and that was discounted when I got it. Its brand new all I did was take it out and look at it a couple times.

Also the custom limbs are Rose Oaks limbs that Brandon makes there is no finer it would be a same to see these go cheap. I have 2 sets of Brandons limbs and they are the best.

I would like to change the terms of one of my offerings, if I may. As there is so very little bloodshed from guys fighting over my poor orphan Bear Cubs (What's not to like? They're shocky if you don't hold them right, asymmetrical limb length & tiller, unstable, and no shelf!)

All three of the semi-recurves as a single package deal, starting at $70 complete. Great for resistance training, 12 reps with the 48#, 10 with the 55#, and 6 - 8 with the 60#.

Eventually you could even shoot these suckers- Lord knows I have! I'll just keep the little reflex flat bow unless someone goes $50 for it.

Good day! I thought I would post a couple of pictures of the nice Super Necedah I have up for bids. The only picture I posted did not do it justice so thought I would bait the trap, so to speak, with some enticing images of tempting tigerwood! The present bid is wayyy below what this bow is worth and it's for a good cause folks so let's raise some money for Dire Wolf!!

treepasser, heheh. You dang southpaws...but it does not have a cut in shelf, just a leather bump glued under the handle wrap. It is easy enough to configure for a lefty. I basically make my selfbows to shoot from the knuckle, more er less.

25.00 on Junos 500 blackie's there ya go not much time.

Its disgrace to get Rose Oak limbs for whats bid.LOL

Steal those limbs for that amount and they could haunt you.LOL

They are to heavy for me and to buy and resell at a profit that would bother me also.LOL

Can't believe there's no younger guys that can pull that and don't want custom bear limbs that there isn't any finer out there? LOL
